Year of The Snake 2025: Wishing A Happy New Year To The Overseas Vietnamese Community
Overseas Vietnamese: A Silent Force on the Diplomatic Front

Every year during the Lunar New Year (Tet), Tran Hai Linh, a member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Chairman of the Vietnam-Korea Business Association, makes an effort to arrange his work in South Korea to return to his homeland. For him, this is the most meaningful and sacred time to reunite with his family and enjoy the warm and festive atmosphere of traditional Vietnamese New Year. More importantly, it is also an opportunity to participate in the annual "Homeland Spring" program.

As one of the 100 outstanding overseas Vietnamese honored at the 2025 Spring in the Homeland program, Trần Hải Linh expressed his joy and pride in attending the event. He emphasized that this program allows Vietnamese expatriates to reconnect, exchange experiences, and gain a deeper understanding of the nation's achievements over the past year as well as its future development directions.

Strengthening Vietnam-South Korea Business Cooperation

Tran Hai Linh shared that overseas Vietnamese always wish to return home to celebrate the traditional Tet holiday. "Each of us has our own unique emotions, but we all share the excitement and joy of witnessing Vietnam’s continuous growth and prosperity. Over the years, the country has made remarkable progress in economic and social development, improving both the material and spiritual well-being of its people," he said.

"In this era of national advancement, every overseas Vietnamese carries a strong sense of responsibility and readiness to contribute their knowledge and expertise to the country's development. Returning home is also an opportunity for us to stay updated on the situation in Vietnam and to share accurate information with the Vietnamese community abroad, thereby fostering further engagement with our homeland," he added.

As the Chairman of the Vietnam-Korea Business Association, Tran Hai Linh and his team, along with numerous member enterprises, have actively organized major programs to enhance business cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea, contributing to economic development between the two nations.

For instance, the Vietnam-Korea Business Association has fully sponsored Vietnamese enterprises to attend trade promotion conferences in South Korea. Additionally, the association has collaborated with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People's Committee of Lam Đong Province to implement national trade promotion programs, facilitating the export of Central Highlands products to South Korea. Similar initiatives have also been carried out in partnership with the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan Province and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote trade in the South Central region.

He emphasized that his goal is not just to focus on a few localities but to expand trade promotion efforts across different regions, thereby strengthening economic ties between Vietnam and South Korea. One of the key objectives of the Vietnam-Korea Business Association is to support efforts to rapidly surpass the $100 billion trade milestone between the two nations in the near future.

He also highlighted that Vietnam’s policies for overseas Vietnamese have become increasingly open and supportive, demonstrating the attention and care of the Party, the State, and the Government. This has encouraged more overseas Vietnamese to return and contribute to the country in various fields.

Over the past year, the government and relevant ministries have issued and amended numerous policies related to nationality, immigration, residence, investment, land, and housing—making them more favorable for overseas Vietnamese. These changes ensure that expatriates can enjoy rights and responsibilities similar to those of domestic citizens, encouraging them to invest and do business in Vietnam. This also allows overseas Vietnamese businesses and intellectuals to contribute more effectively to the country's development.

"We hope that with such open and favorable conditions, more businesses from South Korea and around the world will increase their investments in Vietnam. While there are still certain challenges, in this new era of national progress, these barriers will be addressed and adjusted appropriately by the Party, the State, and the Government. This will enable businesses to expand their investments, thereby supporting Vietnam's development. Overseas Vietnamese will always remain an inseparable part of the nation," he affirmed.

In recent times, geopolitical conflicts and economic difficulties have impacted countries in the region and around the world. However, Vietnam's GDP growth remains among the highest globally, with some localities even setting double-digit growth targets. This reflects not only the determination of individual provinces but also the collective efforts of the entire nation, showcasing the wise leadership of the Party, the State, and the Government, as well as the unity and determination of the people in achieving national development goals.

Tran Hai Linh expressed his strong belief that as Vietnam’s comprehensive strategic partner, South Korea—Vietnam’s largest investor—will continue to bring valuable contributions to Vietnam’s future development.

"We are ready to serve as a bridge to enhance Vietnam-South Korea cooperation and ensure even more effective collaboration in the coming years," he affirmed.

Every Overseas Vietnamese is Like a People’s Ambassador

As a new spring arrives, Tran Hai Linh, like many other overseas Vietnamese, longs to celebrate Tet in his homeland.

For those unable to return, the Vietnamese community in South Korea organizes Tet celebrations through events hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy. Additionally, local Vietnamese associations in various cities arrange their own celebrations for the expatriate community. The Vietnamese population in South Korea is diverse, comprising Vietnamese-Korean multicultural families, migrant workers, and students. Despite their differences, they all share a strong sense of unity, working and studying diligently to build a strong Vietnamese community in South Korea while also contributing to the host country and their homeland.

He emphasized that each overseas Vietnamese acts as a "people’s ambassador." If Vietnam can effectively leverage the strengths of its expatriate community, it will greatly contribute to building a prosperous and thriving nation.
