Precious prohibitively-priced mushrooms hunted by wealthy Vietnamese
“Nấm Tùng Nhung” (Matsutakes)
In recent years, during the lunar July, wealthy people in Vietnam hunt for “Nấm Tùng Nhung”, also known as matsutake. One kilo of fresh matsutake is usually priced at between VND18-20 million, while dried matsutake is valued at VND30 million. Even some kinds of matsutake soar up to VND45 million per kilo, Vietnamnet reported.

Matsutakes are commonly found in dense forests blanketed by fog, snow, and high humidity all year round in some countries such as Japan, South Korea, China, Bhutan, etc. Explaining the reason why matsutakes have such a high price, sellers say the mushrooms grow naturally. Matsutakes own a unique taste, aromatic, crispy, and sweet.
“Nấm Lim Xanh” (Reishi mushroom)
“Nấm Lim Xanh”(Reishi mushroom), also known as Ganoderma Lucidum and Lingzhi is often detected in primeval forests.

One special thing is that the reishi mushroom only grows on dead ironwood trees. From May to mid-August, locals in mountainous regions go to dense forests for hunting Reishi mushroom.
The fresh reishi mushroom is priced at 1-2 million VND per kg, depending on each type. Meanwhile, dried one can go up to 3.5 million VND per kg.
“Nấm Phục Linh Thiên” (Poria cocos Wolf)
“Nấm Phục Linh Thiên”, scientifically named Poria cocos Wolf, is dubbed as the “Ginseng of Vietnam”. It is only discovered in the mountainous provinces in Northern Vietnam such as Lao Cai and Yen Bai.

This type of mushroom weighs between 500 grams and 2 kilos while the giant version can weigh around 10 to 15 kilos. Its price often ranges from several of hundreds to over VND1 million per kilo. “Nấm Phục Linh Thiên” is even said to be more precious than North Korean ginseng.
“Nấm mối” (Termitomyces Albuminosus)
“Nấm mối” (Termitomyces Albuminosus) only grows naturally. It is 4-6cm in height and only available at the beginning of the rainy season (from May to August) in the Southeast provinces such as Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Vung Tau ... and Ben Tre.

The price of the mushroom is approximately VND1 million per kilo. Buyers normally have to order several days in advance to ensure their purchase.
