Professor Le Quy Vang shared about the story of promoting Vietnamese intellectual resources abroad.

Can you share about your life in Denmark?

I have been living in Denmark with my small family for 12 years now. Life is quite peaceful and we have a lot of time to focus on work and take care of our family.

You joined the Danish Covid-19 prevention group. In what ways do you contribute?

With professional experience in Molecular Biology and Data Science, I have been volunteering in the Danish pandemic prevention team since March 2020.

I feel honored and satisfied to contribute my professional knowledge, skills and fulfill the social responsibility of a citizen and a scientist.

Our team has made important contributions, serving as the basis for the Danish government and the authorities on pandemic prevention and control to make the right decisions in a timely manner. These contributions were recognized and commended by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

I am also very happy that now Danish society has returned very close to the normal situation. I am very eager and want to contribute to the society of Vietnam and other countries to overcome the pandemic soon.

From your working environment and field of expertise in data science, do you have an interest, desire to connect and share with people in the country?

I have a few things of interest and would like to share:

Act as a bridge

Like many other scientists and professionals, I look forward to being able to contribute my professional skills to interesting, meaningful work for science and for society.

With the opportunity to approach experts and a world-class working environment, I want to be able to act as a bridge to transmit updated information, advanced technologies to support the socio-economic development goals of the country.

National strategy in line with world trends and social needs

At the national level, I believe that long-term investment strategic vision and goals are essential. This vision should follow the trend of the world and the needs of society as well as the actual characteristics of Vietnam. For example, the United Nations sustainable development goals, climate change, overpopulation, aging populations are topics of great influence.

With many years of experience in gene sequencing technology, data science and high-performance computing system management, I can share and train local experts. I want to join hands to build a stronger human resources team to be able to solve big problems for society.

Creating a favorable environment for innovation

Personally, I'm particularly interested in startups. I believe that to develop a knowledge society, it is necessary to have technology startups. Companies that create products and services that bring real benefits to society. With such products and services, people and markets will happily pay for solutions that meet their needs.

For that reason, I am very interested in connecting and nurturing scientists who want to start a business, connecting with state and social development investment funds. This is to create an environment, a cradle, a fertile ground for innovative ideas to have more opportunities to create products and services that contribute to social improvement.

Developing a modern and professional civilized working culture

With the experience of living and working in Korea for more than six years and in Denmark for nearly 12 years in universities, hospitals and large corporations, I have experienced different styles of thinking and working culture. Thereby, I see the strengths of the Vietnamese thinking style and working culture.

With such a vision, I hope that leaders, professionals, businesses, sponsors, and people in general develop a culture of perseverance, integrity, a culture of "real business."

In my opinion, the Vietnamese Government needs to define a long-term vision, create favorable mechanisms and policies for research cooperation, encourage innovation, systematize and digitize public services. This is also an issue that I have been concerned about for many years now.

With the attraction of overseas knowledge resources into the country's development being concerned at present, in your opinion, what measures should the Vietnamese Government take?

I think it is not necessary to be in Vietnam to be able to contribute to Vietnam. In addition, exchanges with professional communities, schools, institutes, research institutions, and international corporations are also extremely valuable training and learning environments for Vietnamese expatriates.

However, thinking in the direction of developing internal resources, I think that the policy mechanism and social environment in Vietnam need to continue to improve the recognition and appreciation of individuals working in the country with good expertise.

A working environment in society that promotes professional competence and problem-solving ability will encourage the development of talented people.

I think that promoting policies to support cooperation between domestic experts, overseas and international scientists and experts will promise great results.
