Vietnam-EU: Training 50,000 Semiconductor Engineers by 2030 |
The workshop, organized by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, in collaboration with the Institute of Comprehensive Science at Kyushu University and the Organization for Supporting Foreign Human Resources in Japan, aims to foster the transfer of technology and knowledge in the semiconductor manufacturing industry from Japan to Vietnam.
This initiative supports the development of professional and research capacities among high-quality human resources in Vietnam. It also creates job, internship, and training opportunities for Vietnamese students and experts in Japan, thereby enhancing their professional qualifications and expanding their career prospects in the field of electronic semiconductors. Additionally, the workshop proposes and implements long-term cooperation plans to develop human resources and improve production and research capacities in Vietnam's semiconductor industry.

At the opening ceremony of the scientific conference, Consul General Vu Chi Mai emphasized the significance of semiconductors in modern industry. She highlighted that semiconductors form the technological foundation for essential manufacturing industries, ranging from information technology and automobile manufacturing to healthcare, energy, and communications. Innovation is crucial to driving the robust development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and enhancing its international competitiveness.
To achieve this, Vietnam must not only develop advanced technologies but also build an ecosystem that supports innovation, from research and development to production and application. The cooperation between Vietnam and Japan is expected to yield practical results, given Japan's extensive experience and advanced technology in the semiconductor industry, and its readiness to share knowledge and techniques with Vietnam.
Vu Chi Mai expressed her belief that the conference would be a significant step forward, opening up new directions and solutions for the strong development of the Vietnamese semiconductor industry in the near future.
The signing of the joint statement on "Vietnam – Japan Cooperation in Semiconductor Human Resource Development" took place between Kyushu University and the Human Resources Development and Employment Organization, along with the Vietnam University of Science and Technology, the University of Transport and Communications, and the University of Information Technology. |
Omagari Akie, Deputy Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture, highlighted that Kyushu, and Fukuoka Prefecture in particular, boast a thriving semiconductor industry with about 1,000 companies involved in various aspects of semiconductor manufacturing. Fukuoka alone has approximately 400 companies engaged in planning and design, materials, testing, and many other areas.
To address the human resource shortage in the semiconductor industry, Fukuoka Prefecture has taken the lead nationwide by opening the Fukuoka Semiconductor Retraining Center in August 2023. This center aims to strengthen human resources in the semiconductor industry in Kyushu and Japan, contributing to the development of a flourishing semiconductor industry and other digital-related sectors.
At the scientific conference, Fujishima Yasuyuki, Chairman of the Human Resources Support Organization in Japan (HuRedee), reminisced about the formation and cooperation between HuRedee and three Vietnamese universities (University of Science and Technology, University of Transport and Communications, and University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) in training high-quality human resources, including in the field of semiconductors. During the two-day conference, scholars will discuss the challenges that HuRedee and its partners have faced and continue to face in the semiconductor industry. Fujishima Yasuyuki hopes that open and constructive dialogues at the conference will lead to conclusions on future cooperation activities.
On the morning of November 29, the first session featured the signing ceremony of the joint statement on "Vietnam - Japan cooperation in semiconductor human resource development" between Kyushu University, the Human Resources Development and Employment Organization, and the University of Science and Technology, the University of Transport and Communications, and the University of Information Technology of Vietnam.
