The opening ceremony for the two events – Sniping Frontier and the Military Medical Relay Race – took place on Aug. 31 at the National Military Training Center 4, Hanoi, marking the first time Vietnam has hosted Army Games' events.

"Vietnam is one of the important countries in Southeast Asia that has a modern and well-trained armed force, and is a comprehensive strategic partner of Russia," said Russia Ambassador in Hanoi Gennady Bezdetko. "Therefore, Russia decided to hold such important and responsible segments of the international Army Games here [in Hanoi], instead of anywhere else."

According to ambassador Bezdetko, after years of organization, the Army Games is attracting more attention both in Russia and abroad. Therefore, the expansion of competition areas is natural, proving that many countries are interested in the event.

A total 277 teams from 41 countries will compete in 34 different competitions at the Army Games 2021, held in 12 countries. "The sports festival is a good opportunity to test the practical skills of soldiers in different climatic conditions," said the ambassador.

He said that with partial support from the Russian Ministry of Defense, Vietnam had carried out the preparation for the two events with high responsibility. "I have checked the new training ground, heard positive feedback from the leadership of the Russian team, and I believe that the competitions will a success," said the ambassador.

He said was also very satisfied with the host country's assurance of Covid-19 prevention and control. Officers and that soldiers always wear masks and keep a safe distance.

"The process of cooperation between the organizing committees in Vietnam and Russia is carried out virtually, but thanks to the well-assured infrastructure, there are no problems related to connection." Subbotin said. "Even though it is the first time Vietnam has hosted the event, the country's preparations have exceeded our expectations."

When asked about Vietnam's possibility of being chosen to host the Army Games in the future, Ambassador Bezdetko said: "There is no doubt about this".

"Vietnam regularly participates in the Army Games, has experience in organizing major military events at home and abroad, including events within the framework of ADMM and ADMM+ in 2020," the Russian ambassador said.

Commenting on the two coming events, ambassador Bezdetko said that the Vietnamese team "may enjoy some advantages regarding the weather when playing in their homeland."

However, he insisted that all members must be ready to perform their assigned duties in any situation at any time of day, on all kinds of terrain and climate. "We expect high results from them [the Vietnamese team]," said the Russian ambassador.
