Russian Embassy in Vietnam hands over donation for flood victims in Central region

On December 23, in Hanoi, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man received outgoing Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov coming to say goodbye at the end of his term and hand over a donation of 40 million VND (US$1,730) to support flood-victims in Vietnam’s central provinces.

Speaking at the meeting, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man highly spoke of the Ambassador’s positive contributions to strengthening Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, according to Daidoanket.

He went on by saying that the cooperation between Vietnam and Russia have achieved good results in various fields such as economy, trade, energy, defense, and security. The two-way trade in 2019 reached 4.5 billion USD and has still enjoyed an increase this year in spite of the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that despite facing difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and natural disasters, the Vietnamese economy has still posted a positive growth rate. Vietnam is determined to fulfill the dual task of economic development and epidemic prevention and control.

President Tran Thanh Man also congratulated Russia on its success in developing the Sputnik V vaccine; simultaneously, believed that with the close cooperation between specialized agencies and organizations, Russia will soon contain the epidemic and restore the economy.

Man expressed hope that in the time ahead, the Ambassador would continue serving as an effective bridge, making positive contributions to fostering bilateral relations.

For his part, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Konstantin Vnukov emphasized that over the past time, the two countries always promote traditional and friendly relationships and are willing to share and support each other when facing difficulties. This has been signified by the fact that Vietnam gifted Russia face masks while Russia provided Vietnam Covid-19 test kits and dispatched experienced doctors working with the country to study the treatment for the Covid-19 epidemic.

Aiding 40 million VND (US$1,730) for flood victims in central provinces, Ambassador Konstantin Vnukov hoped that people would soon overcome difficulties and stabilize their life.

The ambassador also promised that in any position, he will spare no efforts to step up the Vietnam-Russia ties.

The Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Sharifah Norhana Syed Mustaffa on December 17 also handed over donations from the Malaysian Government and businesses to help victims of the recent serious flooding in Vietnam’s central region.

The donations included 25,000 USD from the Malaysian Government, goods worth 22,000 USD from the association of Malaysian businesses in Vietnam, and 5,000 USD from the Gamuda Land group.

Successive storms and floods hit Vietnam’s central region since late September, resulting in more than 230 people listed as dead and missing, and estimated economic losses of about 17 trillion VND, according to a Government report to the National Assembly on November 2.
