	India, Singapore sign MoU for cooperation in law, dispute resolution

VPDF Standing Chairman Ha Hung Cuong and Vice Principal of Hanoi Law University To Van Hoa chaired the seminar. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, a number of member organizations of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations, along with lecturers and students of Hanoi Law University were also in attendance.

Both sides exchanged information on current issues in international relations, challenges to the process of building and implementing international law. Another highlight is the proposals of solutions to take advantage of international law in responding to regional and global challenges.

In his opening remarks, Vice Principal To Van Hoa (Hanoi Law University) stressed that non-traditional challenges such as food security, water security, financial security, cyber security, climate change, natural disasters and global epidemics have become more complicated. They seriously threaten the sustainable development of many countries.

These challenges directly impact national development and defense. At the same time, they create many new opportunities and advantages. The practice of law must monitor and closely follow the situation to apply scientific methods, properly assess the international context, and propose timely guidelines, policies and strategies.

He added that by analyzing the current international context and situation, the major trends in international relations, we can identify challenges to the role of international law in maintaining peace, in handling current international issues as well as in shaping the future of the world's order.

The impacts and issues posed to Vietnam in applying international law can then be evaluated. This matter is important in the fight to protect national interests, in research, advisory work and policy implementation of Vietnam's foreign policy until 2030 as well as in raising the level of multilateral diplomacy, so that Vietnam can become an active, responsible member of the international community.

Other highlights of the seminar included the presentations on "Main characteristics and trends of the current world situation and impacts on Asia" by Ambassador Nguyen Dang Quang, Member of the Foundation Standing Committee and "Current challenges to the role of international law and policy implications for Vietnam" by Prof. Dr. Dang Dinh Quy, Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

Participants also discussed the security situation in the regions, the important role of international law and raising Vietnam's position as a responsible member of the international community. The positive and negative impacts of international law on Vietnam's foreign policy, especially people-to-people diplomacy, were also evaluated.

In his closing speech, VPDF Standing Chairman Ha Hung Cuong highly appreciated the presentations of the two speakers. They provided many profound analytical opinions in applying and complying with international law while the participants' opinions are both detailed and constructive, Cuong stated.
