The Vietnamese Association in four southern provinces of Laos on April 29 organized a friendly football tournament to mark the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day.

Within the framework of activities to celebrate the Vietnam-Laos and Laos-Vietnam Year of Solidarity and Friendship 2022, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Pakse coordinated with the Vietnamese Association of Champasak province to organize a friendly football tournament on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1).

The event saw the presence of the Consulate General's officials and staff, representatives from local departments, Laos - Vietnam Friendship Associations, and the Vietnamese communities, Vietnamese enterprises operating in four southern provinces of Laos including Champasak, Attapeu, Salavan and Sekong.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Consul General Nguyen Van Trung emphasized, the friendly football tournament held in the Vietnamese community in four southern Laos provinces this time not only aims to celebrate the country's reunification but also one of the activities marking the 60th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties and 45 years of the signing of the Vietnam - Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

The event is contributing to strengthening the special friendship relationship between the Party, State and people of the two countries Vietnam - Laos; at the same time, helping Vietnamese in Laos improve their health and skills, promoting solidarity among the Vietnamese community and its images to the Lao friends.

On behalf of the leaders of the four southern provinces of Laos, Vassana Latsami, president of the Lao Front for National Construction in Champasak province, appreciates sports exchanges and expressed her hope that the activity will contribute to further strengthening the friendship and solidarity, especially between Champasak and southern Laos provinces, between the Vietnamese community living and doing business in southern Laos and Lao people.

The teams competed in the round-robin format. As a result of the tournament, the Vietnamese Association of Attapeu province triumphed; the Vietnamese Association of Champasak province ranked second; a team of the Vietnamese Association of Salavan province ranked third; Sekong province's Vietnamese Association team ranked fourth.

The football tournament was a great success, highly by the government, overseas Vietnamese, and Vietnamese businesses in four southern Laos provinces.

The tourney is also meant to encourage youngsters to treasure the bilateral friendly neighborliness, maintain their development momentum and cooperation, as well as enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Previously, from April 22-23, the Vietnam Tennis Club in Cambodia held a tennis tournament, bringing together representatives from the Vietnamese community and enterprises operating in Phnom Penh.

Participating in the tournament were 16 players from the Vietnamese embassy, ​​agencies, and Vietnamese businesses operating in Cambodia such as BIDC bank, VNPT, Mekong River Commission, Vietnam Airlines, and Vietnam News Agency, among others.

The event was supported by the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia with the aim of strengthening exchanges and connections between the embassy, ​​agencies, and Vietnamese businesses operating in the capital.
