Spread Love of Homeland Sea and Islands to Students in Lang Son

The contest "I love my hometown' sea and island" is a way to spread the love and responsibility of each individual for the sovereignty of the country's sea and islands.

Recently, in Lang Son city of the northern mountainous province of Lang Son, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command coordinated with the city People's Committee to organize the contest "I love my hometown' sea and island" for the youth in border areas.

The contest is an extracurricular activity in the education sector, a healthy and useful playground to equip students with knowledge of the country's seas and islands.

It also contributes to strengthening the unity between officers and soldiers of the Vietnam Coast Guard and teachers, especially students; training union and officers, youth union members, and women members of the Vietnam Coast Guard.

At the contest, the Chairman of Lang Son People's Committee Nguyen Van Hanh said that the contest is one of the effective activities making an important contribution to the cause of boosting the youths’ vanguard role in national defense.

Senior Colonel Bui Dai Hai, Deputy Political Chief of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, said that over the past 10 years, the Coast Guard Command and its affiliated agencies and units have organized nearly 100 similar contests in 28 provinces and cities. They attracted the participation of 272 Middle Schools with more than 6,770 students.

The contest focuses on learning about Vietnam's seas and islands; Vietnamese and international law on seas and islands; harmful effects of drugs, school violence and how to prevent them; and national traditions.

After a period of exciting competition, the three students with the best achievements were awarded the first prize.

Besides the contest, the Coast Guard Command organized a conference about the seas, islands, and the Coast Guard for nearly 300 officials, people, teachers, and students, youth union members, and armed forces personnel in Lang Son City.

The conference aims to equip, orient, and build trust and responsibilities for officials and local people to improve understanding of the position and role of the sea and islands, the importance of seas and islands; arousing patriotism and national pride, enhancing citizens' responsibility toward safeguarding the sacred sovereignty over national sea and islands.

They exhibited 100 photos related to the national sea and islands, and the activities of the Vietnam Coast Guard at Lang Son Provincial Convention Center.

In addition, delegates presented 54 gifts to revolutionary contributors, heroes of the People's Armed Forces, war veterans, wounded soldiers, families of war martyrs, and local needy households.

The Vietnam Coast Guard Command also presented 50 bicycles to disadvantaged students from five secondary schools participating in the contest, five TVs to the schools, 10 bicycles to the adopted children of the border guard stations, and 10 bicycles to the children of personnel of the provincial Border Guard Command.
