According to Vietnamese VOV, the three langurs, each weighs around 8-12 kg, have been repeatedly showing up from 6 am to late evening in the past few months at the west side of Ho Chi Minh road that passes Huong Lap commune, Quang Tri province, central Vietnam.

The three animals often jump out to the middle of the streets to scare and chase after passers-by whenever they hear vehicles coming near. To date, 9 people are badly injured, dozens falling off motorbikes while driving.

Given the imminent dangers the langurs could bring, local authorities have deployed a safety team guarding at the spots to ensure the safety of local residents, especially young students who would go pass the place twice a day.

The immediate plan is to put up an 8-to10-meter-high net fence to prevent the langurs from jumping all of a sudden from trees bush onto the roads. Besides, the fence could probably slow down the animals’ attack time, leaving passers-by with enough time to dodge.

“The guard team will be using dogs’ bark to scare the langurs back into the forest and ensure the safety of the herds”, Nguyen Hong Phuong, deputy director of the Depart of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri Province was quoted as saying.
