The final round of the national BEYOU English Contest found the best candidates from 2,000 contestants across the country.

The final round of the BEYOU English Contest 2019-2020 has ended and honors the best contestants. Dao Lien Ha from Brendon Primary School won the first prize. And, two second prizes were awarded to Nguyen Khanh Linh - Luong The Vinh Junior High School and Trieu Tuan Khang - Quang Minh Junior High School. The third prize belongs to contestants: Phan The Duc: Hanoi Junior High School Junior High School, Dinh Khanh Ly - Luong The Vinh Junior High School, Nguyen Ngoc Anh Dich Vong Hau Secondary School. Other 9 contestants won the consolation prizes: Tran Pham Ngoc Anh - Dong Phong Junior High School; Nguyen Manh Duc Junior High School Pham Su Manh, Hoang Mai Huong - Khanh Nhac A Primary School, Doan Hoang Bao Thuy - Asian International School, Tran Thi Hong Minh - Bac Hong Junior High School, Nguyen Hoang Phuong Anh Dong Huong Junior High School, Nguyen Xuan Phuong Junior High School -Tay Son high school, Nguyen Hai Yen - Secondary School Binh Minh, Nguyen Ha Trang - Secondary School Le Thanh Nghi.

Candidates will receive awards from the Organizing Committee, merit certificates from the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association and become the representative of Vietnam educational and cultural exchange programs between the two countries held by the Vietnam - UK Friendship Association in the future. These are the messengers that contribute to the diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

The final round of the contest with the participation of prestigious jury members include: Ms. Hoang Le Thuy Duong - Deputy General Secretary of Vietnam - UK Friendship Association; Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang - Southeast Asia Regional Director, University of Waikato; Ms. Dau Thi Le Hieu - Head of Professional English Department, Institute of Foreign Languages, Hanoi University of Science & Technology; Mr. Matthew Doige - Head of ASEAN Cooperation, International Trade Department, British Embassy in Hanoi.

The competition is organized entirely online through 4 rounds, expanding opportunities for students in all regions of the country and overseas Vietnamese, performing their English ability and expressing the love to the country and discovering the UK's culture, people.

Speaking at the contest, General Secretary of the Vietnam - UK Friendship Association, Mr. Tran Duc Hieu said: “Although the COVID-19 disease has basically been controlled in our country, the final round of the contest is still organized online to ensure absolute safety for contestants participating in the contest. This is an educational event playing great importance role in promoting the Vietnam-UK friendship relationship to celebrate the 47th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United Kingdom ”.

Starting in December 2019, during the social-distancing period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 2,000 contestants participating in 3 rounds and the training sessions were conducted entirely on the online learning system SmartBEYOU. Specifically, there are 2 rounds of knowledge ability assessing and 1 round performing the presentation ability on global issues, and the country, people of Vietnam and the UK. A lot of attention and attraction paid by parents, teachers, students and the community to the impressive 74 presentations performed by students aged 11 to 17, affirming the faith put on development of an active, talented and capable young generation.

The representative the contest's jury, Ms. Hoang Le Thuy Duong, Deputy General Secretary of Vietnam - UK Friendship Association, Head of Facing the World Organization (UK) in Vietnam said: “The contest suggests interesting topics of Vietnamese and British culture bridging a significant cultural exchange. I am really impressed with the language skills and confidence showed by the contestants and proud of the excellent English skills performed by these Vietnamese young generation ”.

In the interview with Vietnam Times, Ms. Hoang Le Thuy Duong said that: This year's candidates have carefully prepared, practiced listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to accumulate knowledge to shine at the contest. All of the candidates come from Vietnamese schools, which proves that foreign language, in particular, English is being invested and paid great attention for students. Especially, Vietnamese education has gained great achievements in training students comprehensively and helping them access the world civilization. Through this contest, I believe that in the near future Vietnam will have a new generation of highly educated human resource with a capable of giving speeches and management to compete with the region and the world. ”
