According to TripAdvisor, in the city of Hue, which is clustered around the Perfume River, there are endless historical sites, especially those listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Must-see attractions include the ornate Imperial Citadel, the colorful Thanh Toan Bridge, royal tombs, and the Forbidden Purple City.

The Hue Citadel complex was the place where nine Nguyen lords and 13 Nguyen Dynasty emperors chose to live and rule the country. The construction of the citadel took 31 years, from 1802 to 1833. Under the rule of these Nguyen kings, the tombs were designed to reflect their different temperaments, philosophies, and priorities.

TripAdvisor described Hue Citadel and Imperial Tombs as "a forgotten, almost mythological world" because of the moss-covered towers hidden in the hills and faded stone warriors proudly guarding the dead, among other features.

Also from the Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Destinations Awards 2024, the capital city of Hanoi is ranked 4th in the “Top Destinations” category. Meanwhile, Hoi An ancient city in the central province of Quang Nam gets the 10th position among 25 destinations around the world.

Readers of Tripadvisor also voted the UNESCO heritage site Ha Long Bay and the northern highlands town Sa Pa in northern Vietnam among the world's 25 top trending destinations this year.

"Travelers visit Ha Long Bay for an up-close look at its amazing limestone islands, rock formations, and caves. Whittled away over centuries by wind and water, they're breathtaking," Tripadvisor wrote.
