UK's weather forecast

According to Met Office, warning for strong winds is issued to hit the UK bringing along massive waves and potential flooding.

“The gusty winds will also blow in plenty of heavy showers. We should also see some sunny spells in between. Storm Ellen is drifting away but kind of being consumed by this other area of low pressure which will dominate through Friday and into the weekend."

“A lot of isobars on the chart, so it is still going to be windy and as these weather fronts move through. They will be bringing bands of showers just allowing those winds to really whip up all of a sudden.”

A Met Office yellow weather warning for wind applies from the north of Scotland down to the Cornish coast and is in place until the early hours of Friday.

Cautionary advice of potential travel delays and potential power cuts will extend eastwards on Friday, including central and northern England, as well as Wales.

Mr Deakin added: “More widely on Friday we have a yellow Met Office weather warning in force. Gusts of wind of 40 to 50 miles an hour, maybe 60 miles an hour in the West coast of Wales. These strong winds then move as the bands of showery rain work across these weather fronts."

“We'll start to see the winds picking up for central and then eastern parts during the first part of Friday.”

Western Scotland, stretching down to the south-west of England will see powerful winds of up to 65mph.

Mr Deakin said: “And then, more widely on Friday, we have a yellow metal office weather warning in force inland gusts of 45 to 50 miles an hour around coast gust of 60 miles an hour and over hills. Both weather warnings could cause some power interruption certainly some disruption to travel ferry service cancellations."

“But we're also concerned about the strong winds combining with high tides bringing some large waves and the potential for coastal flooding. So there are those weather warnings in force.”

The unseasonal weather comes just a week after scorching temperatures brought the mercury up to 34C for six consecutive days.

Europe's weather forecast

According to Express, UK heatwave forecasts will have people across the country searching for another run of hot weather as 70mph winds angle towards the east coast, bringing with them a band of rain. Although potentially dangerous, the storm may reintroduce heatwave conditions back to the continent.

The UK heatwave of last week broke with blustery winds, rain and widespread storms over the weekend. They have only intensified in recent days, with widespread yellow weather warnings now in place ahead of Storm Ellen. The named system will make landfall on the west coast over the next two days, bringing with it 70mph winds and heavy rain.

But forecasters believe the heatwave will return not long after this, bringing 30C heat back to continental Europe.

According to forecasters with Severe Weather Europe, the weather will turn starting today. They said Storm Ellen arrived in the UK as part of an Atlantic depression, which will gradually weaken and build up an "upper ridge" over the continent.

The forecasters added this would spearhead a move towards stable weather. They said: "[The] violent storm has brought quite a wild and windy past 24 hours over Ireland, Wales, and southwestern England."

"The system was a part of the main North Atlantic depression which has now matured over western Europe. While storm Ellen is decaying and moving over Scotland today, the main circulation has a powerful jet stream rounding it."

"At the same time, upper-level ridging is building up from southern into central Europe. After today, a gradual weakening of the depression is expected while the system will continue towards the northeast."

"This will cause the upper ridge to additionally strengthen over Europe, building up an omega blocking pattern across the continent."

"Therefore, stable weather is expected to build up beneath the ridge."

Forecasters added a "strong heatwave" would result from this activity, prompting temperatures to rise to 38C by Friday.

On Saturday, they will remain in this range or intensify towards 40C in some areas. Severe Weather Europe added: "Stable and strong mid-level warm advection should result in a strong heatwave from France through Thursday, spreading into Germany and around the Alps on Friday.

"Temperatures should reach between +33 and +38C in many regions. While the cold front brings a refreshment across western and central Europe, heatwave persists across southern Europe over the weekend."

"Temperatures should remain between +35 and +40C across Italy and the southern Balkan peninsula."

Britain will see temperatures slighlty lower but still reach highs of around 23C this weekend before dipping into next week.

The short-lived heatwave will depart by Sunday, leaving conditions ripe for storms and severe weather.

The forecasters said a following cold front and increasing moisture could weaken the jet stream. Conditions will end up conductive for "organised" storms, they added, which refers to systems of thunder, heavy rain and wind.

On August 22

A generally dry and fine day for Spain and Portugal although with some showers developing in the east of Spain later on. Dry, fine and sunny again throughout the rest of the Mediterranean. Greece and Turkey will again get dry with plenty of sunshine.
