UK's weather forecast

According to Met Office, wet and windy in the far northwest of Scotland, else sunny intervals and scattered showers, with some southern and eastern parts mainly dry.

For those wanting to get out this weekend, it may be a good idea to pack the umbrella as it's set to be a wet one. Today, there will be heavy showers, with the North West being the hardest hit, The Sun reported.

In the South, it will be drier with potential sunny spells and temperatures are expected to reach 24C.

BBC Weather forecaster Sarah Keith-Lucas warned most of Britain is set to experience bouts of heavy downpours throughout the weekend due to a series of rainy systems pushing through the UK. The BBC meteorologist noted some areas could experience short periods of dry weather but insisted downpours are expected to hit most of the country. Ms Keith-Lucas said: "There could be a few spells of sunshine out there today but it is an unsettled picture through today and tomorrow as well.

"There could be some thunderstorms around as well but not everywhere is going to see the rain, they’re fairly hit and miss.

"This big area of low pressure is driving our weather so weather fronts are going to be pushing their way west to east over the next 24 hours or so, bringing those outbreaks of rain and fairly blustery winds too.

"Many places waking up to a fairly damp start to the morning. Heaviest of the rain this morning across parts of Scotland. Further south we are going to be seeing those torrential showers into the afternoon."

As we move into Sunday, there will be wet and windy weather in the far northwest of Scotland. Elsewhere on Sunday, there will be sunny intervals and scattered showers, with some southern and eastern parts mainly dry.

Highs of 26C hit the south of England yesterday, with a warm and sunny day for much ofthe UK. The heat will continue into Saturday, with 23C forecast, as the weather charts turn a sunny shade of orange. As we look out onto next week, it will be raining in many parts on Monday.

The BBC Weather meteorologist warned southern England is likely to become the main target of the downpours during the afternoon.

She continued: "But nowhere really immune to catching some of those passing torrential showers as we head through the course of the day, particularly through parts of the Midlands, East Anglia and, later in the day, the southeast of England as well.

"Northern Ireland also catching some of those torrential downpours at times.

"Some dry and bright spells in Scotland, but you could still catch some heavy showers and thunderstorms especially in eastern Scotland."

Some areas of Britain should expect to be hit by heavy showers. It will be breezy with sunny spells and showers thereafter, though mainly dry in the south.

Monday will be an unsettled and wet day for much of England and Wales with spells of rain, heavy at times. It will be brighter for Scotland and Northern Ireland with sunny intervals and a few showers.

Tuesday then looks cool and breezy for most with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. Another breezy day looks likely for Wednesday with more sun and some showers.

Outlook for next week

Rain for many on Monday, heavy in places. Breezy with sunny spells and showers thereafter, though mainly dry in the south. Humid in the south on Monday, otherwise rather cool.

Sunshine and showers will be most probable further north. Strong winds are also likely across many areas. There could be a brief interlude of more settled weather bringing some dry weather to some parts, but confidence in this remains low. It is generally likely to be on the cool side for much of the country with temperatures nearest to normal in the south and southeast.

Europe's weather forecast

SCORCHING highs of 41C will hit parts of Spain tonight as Europe is enveloped in a baking heatwave - while weather maps show Britain turning red as a blast of hot weather sweeps in.

The latest UK heatwave may arrive this weekend, as the country looks set for more weather in the mid-to-high 20s for another week running. While weather maps show Europe is destined for extreme conditions - with the mercury passing 41C in some parts.

Graphs from weather experts with Windy and WXCharts show a vast red blemish descending over the continent this weekend.

According to forecasters, maximum temperatures of 41C could hit parts of Southern Spain tonight and into Saturday.

Areas around Madrid will bathe in these highs, which will only intensify further on Sunday. Sunday will see extreme temperatures of 43C, rivalling and besting the mercury in some parts of Africa.

WXCharts, which uses data from MetDesk, also shows the south of France will see highs passing 30C as well, mainly on Saturday.

The heat will also continue to build through Portugal, which is currently seeing highs of 30C, which is likely to build to 32C by Sunday.

While this is par for the course for some parts of Europe, the latest weather spikes come at the behest of a low-pressure system.

But the UK will only benefit temporarily, with temperatures in the mid-20s tonight giving way to torrential rain.

Rain will extinguish highs of 24C and 26C as people go to sleep tonight, with rain and cloud developing in the late hours of Friday.

According to weather forecasters with the Met Office, the night will start dry, but rain moving in from the west will dash hopes of another heatwave.

Met Office forecaster Becky Mitchell revealed a "messy picture" for the UK as the weekend begins.

She said: “Tonight looks to be dry and cloudy for most places, it’s quite a mild night as well with temperatures perhaps not falling below 17C in the south-east."

Their long-range forecast, which covers most of the week from July 29, states the last few days of the months will see rain and cloud, which will continue into August.

The forecast states: "The unsettled theme seems likely to continue through the last few days of July, with showers and variable cloud, with the driest and sunniest weather in the south and southwest.

"Into early August, it will remain unsettled with the wettest conditions and greatest likelihood of prolonged rainfall in the west and southwest.

"Sunshine and showers will be most probable further north."

On July 26

Fair conditions through Spain and Portugal on Saturday. Staying dry through the central Mediterranean, although a few showers possible over eastern regions of Italy. Greece should be largely dry and fine although some scattered showers do look to develop. Staying fair in Turkey with more sunshine to come here.

Rain in northern parts of France. Fair in central and southern areas of France. Further rain in the Low Countries. More rain for western and southern Germany. Wet in southern and eastern Poland, fair in the west. Wet for Hungary and Austria as well as Switzerland.

Denmark will have sunny spells and scattered showers. The Baltic States will be mostly dry with sunny spellswet, periods of heavy rain. Remaining wet in Finland, some of the rain heavy. Rain across northern Sweden and Norway but drier in the south.

On July 27

It should be a dry and fine day across Spain and Portugal as well as the islands. Italy too looking dry and sunny. Possible scattered showers across mainland Greece but mostly dry with sunshine. Dry for Turkey.

Rain will gradually clear eastern France with sunny spells and isolated showers developing behind but cloudy skies for Germany, the Low Countries as well as much of eastern Europe, Austria and Hungary.

Heavy spells of rain will continue to affect southern parts of Norway and Sweden. Largely dry and fine further north. A day of sunny spells and showers for Finland. Turning more unsettled for the Baltic States as a band of rain spreads northeastwards.
