UK and Europe weather forecast latest, October 16: Fierce winds and downpours to smash Britain
UK's weather forecast
The meteorologist told BBC Breakfast that there will be scatered showers in eastern England throughout Thursday. Ms Kirkwood added that the Midlands, Wales and Northern Ireland will see drier and brighter weather.
Ms Kirkwood said: "We are looking at some sunny spells, there will be areas of some cloud around and there are going to be some scattered showers."
"What is happening is we have high pressure in the north, low pressure across the continent and in between we are pulling in this easterly wind."
"It will be quite brisk across coastlines, it will bring with it a bit more cloud. The cloud across eastern Scotland will produce some drizzle, the cloud across eastern England will produce some showers."
"There will be a line of those showers coming through East Anglia and Kent down towards the Channel Islands. One or two of those showers could prove to be sharp as we go through the day."

BBC Weather has forecast heavy rain and potential thunderstorms for Europe as an Arctic wind blow into the continent.
BBC forecaster Chris Fawkes noted central Europe will likely see the worst of the thunderstorms. Mr Fawkes said: "The weather remains cool across most of Europe and to understand why you just have to look at this pressure chart."
"We have got cool polar northwesterly winds extending in across Scandinavia, central and western Europe into the Mediterranean and even reaching north Africa."
"That is why the weather is cool for many of us, as well that, we have got cloud and some showers around. There will be heavy outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms with that rain across parts of Italy and the Balkans."
