The congress approved the draft reports for the first term and the directions for the second term. In particular, in the second term, the Union of Tien Giang set out the direction to continue to well implement the Party and State's policies on people-to-people diplomacy; well perform its role as the core in the activities of local people-to-people diplomatic activities, as the focal point for foreign non-governmental (NGO) aid mobilization, contributing to the success of foreign activities of the Party and State; associating friendship exchange activities with foreign NGO aid mobilization; promoting peaceful, solidarity and friendship activities to enhance mutual understanding, take advantage of the consensus and widespread support of people all over the world.

The congress also set out specific objectives and tasks for the new term to improve, renew and improve the efficiency of community activities in the new situation according to Directive No. 38-CT / TW of the Secretariat on September 19, 2019 to promote people-to-people diplomacy in the new situation. At the same time, to consolidate the organization of the Provincial Friendship Union and its member associations, developing more bilateral friendship associations to increase mutual understanding and contributing to promoting the image of Tien Giang province to international friends.

Through people-to-people diplomacy, creating a favorable international environment for the work of sovereignty building, economic and social development, protecting the independence and sovereignty of the country. Also, to well implement the list of projects calling for foregin aid approved by the Provincial People's Committee in the period 2020 - 2025.

Nguyen Van Muoi, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee was elected as the Chairman of Tien Giang Union for the 2020-2026 tenure. The Congress also elected its executive board with 18 members.

Addressing at the Congress, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga congratulated and praised the achievements that Tien Giang Union has achieved in all fields in the past term.

Nga said that the 13th National Party Congress has recently set out a path of rapid and sustainable development of Vietnam for the prosperous and happiness for the Vietnamese people and specific goals to strive for and bring Vietnam become a developed country in the mid-21st century.

The Congress affirmed the consistent implementation of the foreign policy of independence, autonomy, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, diversification and multilateralization of foreign relations, proactive and active integration; comprehensive and far-reaching internationalization, Vietnam is a friend, a reliable partner and an active and responsible member of the international community.

Especially, for the first time, the document of the 13th National Party Congress has clearly stated the construction of comprehensive and modern diplomacy with three pillars of Party diplomacy, State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy.

VUFO President Nga said that in order to meet the requirements of protecting the Fatherland, developing the country quickly and sustainably, and for deep international integration, it is necessary to continue to raise awareness about people-to-people diplomacy, which are clearly stated in the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, Directive 38-CT / TW dated September 19, 2019 on continuing to renovate, promote VUFO's role and enhance its quality, performance in the new situations, Secretariat's Conclusion 158-KL / TW dated 1 February 2020 on further implementation of Conclusion 102-KL / TW on the mass organizations in the new situation, creating favorable conditions for the Friendship Union at all levels from central to local levels as well as associations and member organizations to effectively promote the role of people-to-people diplomacy, contributing to maintaining peace and stability and promoting economic development.

According to VUFO President, the Congress of the Tien Giang Union is the first congress of a local friendship union that took place right after the 13th National Party Congress and also the first congress after the VUFO's Charter approved by the Prime Minister on March 23.

In order to continue to innovate and improve the effectiveness of the province's activities under the motto: "Active, flexible, creative and effective", VUFO President noted that Tien Giang Union needs to focus on building a work plan and key tasks for the whole term.

Provincial people-to-people diplomatic activities need to stick closely to the province's socio-economic development goals and VUFO's action plan to implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; Directive 38 and Resolution of the VI Congress of VUFO.

In addition, strengthening external communication and propaganda, focusing on the application of information technology, developing a website in English to inform development achievements, promote the image of the country and people of Tien Giang to international friends, enlist the support of friends around the world for Vietnam in issues of democracy, human rights, territorial sovereignty, sea and islands.

The Tien Giang Union also needs to study and advise the Provincial People's Committee on the implementation plan of the foregin aid advocacy program and cooperate with foreign NGOs on the basis of the province's priorities, attaching political goals to the foreign aid advocacy, meeting the goals and benefits of the province; proactively connecting with businesses, institutions, colleges and universities in the area to attract more entrepreneurs and young people to participate in people-to-people diplomatic activities.

Nga believes that, with the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, the Fatherland Front Committee and the coordination and support of departments, sectors, unions, the Tien Giang Union will complete well the assigned tasks, achieving many new achievements in the work of People's diplomacy, worthy contributions to the sustainable development of Tien Giang.

“VUFO and its member organizations at the central level will do their best to continue coordinating to support Tien Giang Union to operate effectively, contributing to building our Friendship Union system. growing stronger and stronger,” Nga stressed.

Speaking at the congress, Nguyen Van Vinh, Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee said the Provincial People's Committee has approved and received 163 grants from foreign NGOs; including 39 projects and 124 non-projects, with a total value of VND 127,7 billion (equivalent to USD 5.55 million). Tien Giang Union alone has met and worked directly with 132 delegations/individuals representing NGOs with about 1,700 employees/volunteers coming to exchange, take part in friendship activities and implement projects.

According to Vinh, friendly exchange activities have contributed to making the people of other countries better understand the country and people of Vietnam in general and Tien Giang in particular; clearly understand the renovation policies of the Party and State, thereby taking advantage of the support and support of organizations and individuals in the assistance and non-refundable aid according to socio-economic development programs and plans of the province, rural areas, and disadvantaged areas; contributing to improving people's lives, implementing social security, creating conditions for poor households and difficult households to develop business, raise incomes and the quality of life, and create jobs for workers.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Tien Giang also suggested departments, branches and localities in the province need to be fully aware of the important position and role of people-to-people diplomacy, thereby closely coordinating with the foreign affairs sector and the Tien Giang Union. It is necessary to define the work of people-to-people diplomacy as the task of both the political system and the entire people.

On this occasion, VUFO President presented the "For peace and friendship among nations" medals to three individuals; certificates of merit to one group and fvie individuals for their positive contributions to the work of people-to-people diplomacy in the period 2015 - 2020./.
