Vietnam and Angola Boost Broad-based Cooperation

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu and Secretary of State of the Angolan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Domingos Vieira Lopes agree that there is still plenty of potential for the two nations to strengthen collaboration during the discussions on November 15 in Hanoi.

The two sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges, especially high-level ones, and work to increase bilateral commerce to more than $100 million USD in the coming years.

The officials exchange ideas on how to improve bilateral cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, health care, and education. They also agreed to consider legal framework consolidation and mechanism development.

The seventh meeting of the Vietnam-Angola Inter-governmental Committee will be held in Luanda, Angola as agreed upon by the two sides.

Hieu proud in Angola's position and significance Africa and expressed his delight at the progress in the Vietnam-Angola relationship and multifaceted collaboration.

The deputy minister expresses his hope that the two foreign ministries will continue to take the lead in fostering the long-standing partnership, for peace, collaboration, and regional development.

For his part, Lopes investment approval that the Angolan Government wishes to foster multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam and make the partnerships in the economy, trade, and on par with the fine political ties.

The visiting official announced that he is joined by representatives from trade promotion organizations and 15 Angolan companies that are operating in various industries and are looking for prospects for collaboration with Vietnam.

He emphasized that Angola's increasing economic diversification would present significant prospects for Vietnamese businesses.

Hieu thanked Angola for its support in Vietnam's election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the term 2023-2025 and encouraging the African country to support Vietnam's candidacy for a seat on the World Heritage Committee (WHC) in 2023-2027.

Following the talks, the two officials attended the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition depicting Angola's culture, land, and people, as part of events commemorating the 47th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations (November 12, 1975).

On November 14, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son hosted a reception for the Angolan Minister.

Son stated that Vietnam was willing to collaborate with Angola to enhance bilateral relations in a pragmatic and effective manner.

Lopes emphasizes that Angola values ​​its long-standing friendship with Vietnam, which is one of the first countries to establish a diplomatic relationship with Angola after the African country gained independence.

The host and guest talked about specific ways to strengthen their relationship, like increasing trade in goods that are strong on both sides, like wood, agricultural and pharmaceutical products, and developing their cooperation in the fields of education-training, oil and gas, and digital transformation.

They also agreed to quickly negotiate and sign important documents to establish a legal framework for the collaboration.
