Covid-19: Daily infections fall to a two-month low of 11,100
Daily infections for April 22 fell by an additional 870 cases compared to the previous day to 11,160, a record low over the past two months, according to a coronavirus update released by the Ministry of Health. All the new infections were documented in Vietnam, with 8,015 cases diagnosed in the community, said the Ministry of Health.
Notably, none of the localities recorded 1,000 cases each nationwide. Hanoi capital that had reported thousands of cases daily over the past days confirmed just 980 cases.
Ho Chi Minh City, the largest and busiest metropolis in Vietnam, also only reported 93 cases. As the number of daily infections is gradually decreasing in the city, the local administration proposed suspending medical declarations for foreigners entering Vietnam to ease congestion at Tan Son Nhat airport.
Localities that saw the number of infections decrease most compared to the previous day were Dak Nong (-208), Hai Duong (-111), and Gia Lai (-89). Meanwhile, localities that saw the number of infections rise most compared to the previous day were Son la (+273), Vinh Phuc (+44), and Dien Bien (+33).

HCM City proposes suspending medical declaration for foreign arrivals
The Ho Chi Minh City administration has proposed suspending medical declaration procedures for foreigners entering Vietnam in an effort to ease congestion at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the largest and busiest in the country. Instead, the city recommends that passengers, upon completing immigration procedures, self-monitor and declare their health via the PC-Covid app during their stay.
The municipal government believes that the pandemic has gradually eased locally as the number of new cases tends to decrease considerably. The temporary suspension of health declaration procedures for people on an entry will help facilitate their travel and reduce congestion at the airport, especially during rush hours or on weekends.
According to the latest Covid-19 regulations outlined by the Ministry of Health, people entering Vietnam by air are required to have a negative RT-PCR test result and make medical declarations at airports.
