Daily Covid-19 rate falls sharply, as over 175,000 recover from the virus

The nation continues to see a consistent fall in the number of new daily Covid-19 infections, with 108,979 infections confirmed on March 25, a drop of 11,035 from one day earlier. Of the latest cases, a total of 83,428 were detected within the local community, with 22 being imported.

Three localities top the daily case list, including Hanoi with 10,803 new infections, Phu Tho with 4,555, and Nghe An with 4,023. The average number of daily cases nationwide over the past seven days now stands at 130,146, while the national death rate has been at a daily average of 65

The Health Ministry also confirmed a further 175,540 recoveries on the same day, thereby taking the total number of recovered cases up to over 5 million. A further 51 casualties were also confirmed over the past 24 hours, raising the country’s overall death toll to 42,196 or 0.5% of total infections.

USAID, UNICEF provide 1 million USD in Covid-19 supplies to Vietnam

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) marked their recent provision of 1 million USD in life-saving equipment and vaccine administration supplies to Vietnam to assist its Covid-19 response in a ceremony on March 25. The equipment and supplies, funded by USAID and delivered through UNICEF between November 2021 and February 2022, include 2.5 million syringes, 125,000 N95 face masks, and 250 portable patient monitors. The donation has come at a timely moment as Vietnam responds to the current Omicron-fueled wave.

Speaking at the event at the Ministry of Health, Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan thanked the international community’s support for Vietnam in the Covid-19 fight. Since 2020, the US Government has donated to Vietnam 32.72 million USD worth of medical supplies, including 30.2 million Pfizer and Moderna vaccine doses, he said.

He added that the Ministry of Health has promptly distributed the donated facemasks and patient monitors to cities and provinces in need, such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Ha Tinh, Ha Noi, and Hai Duong. An additional 1 million USD worth of vaccine administration supplies, including freezers and computers, will be delivered to Vietnam in the coming time, he further noted.

UNICEF continues to work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Health and its key partners, to not just focus on the rollout of safe vaccines but to support the provision of the medical equipment and medicines that are critical to saving lives from Covid-19, said Rana Flowers, UNICEF Representative to Vietnam.

Hanoi kick-starts tourism promotion activities

The "Get on Hanoi 2022" tourism program will take place on March 25-27, with an array of activities to foster tourism recovery in the ‘new normal’ situation. The program, to be held at the Ly Thai To Square by Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi and other locations, is the first in a series of activities during 2022 to respond to a policy to bolster tourism recovery in the capital city in a safe and flexible manner while keeping Covid-19 at bay, now that Vietnam has officially reopened international tourism.

Its opening ceremony is scheduled at 8 pm on March 25, featuring the screening of the short film "Colourful Hanoi", and musical and visual arts performance shows. A highlight of the program will be a hot-air balloon festival titled ‘"Colourful Hanoi" held in the Long Bien district, with 18 one-level hot air balloons (10m high) and four seven-levels hot air balloons (22m high). Visitors can experience flying up in hot air balloons to see Hanoi from above.

The program will broadcast online through digital platforms: YouTube, the municipal Department of Tourism’s fanpage, and the “Get on Hanoi” fanpage. Hanoi aims to serve over 10 million visitors in 2022, including over 1.2 million international holiday-makers, earning total revenue of over VND 30 trillion (USD 1.31 billion). The city plans to expand new tourism products based on the potential of each area, in a bid to gradually resume all tourism activities this year is an important step to develop the tourism sector sustainably after the pandemic.
