23 new cases in the last 24 hours
Vietnam has 19 new cases of COVID-19 to report from 6 am to 6 pm of May 3, according to the Health Ministry. Nine of the new cases were imported ones. The domestic cases were eight in Vinh Phuc and two in Ha Nam.
4 new cases found on May 4 morning, of which 2 cases were isolated immediately after entry in An Giang, and 2 cases were recorded domestically in Da Nang and Hanoi.

PM orders improving the efficiency of anti-COVID-19 pandemic
The Prime Minister has recently issued dispatch No.570/CD-TTg dated May 2 on improving the efficiency of the fight against COVID-19. In the dispatch, he asked ministers, secretaries, chairpersons of people’s committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front chapters of centrally-run cities and provinces to continue seriously following directions of the Secretariat, Government, Prime Minister, National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control, and the Health Ministry’s prevention and control regulations.
They were asked to review and perfect prevention and control rules while increasing inspection over the effort, take responsibility for the outcomes of pandemic prevention and control work, and socio-economic development in the current situation. The Health Ministry was assigned to monitor the implementation of the PM’s directions, the supplement of medical equipment and infrastructure in localities.
Ministries, agencies, and localities, particularly heads of Party committees and authorities, were responsible for tightening discipline in immigration management. The inter-sectoral team from the ministries of health, foreign affairs, national defense, public security, and transport must closely oversee the entry of Vietnamese from abroad, and foreign experts and technicians. The Government leader ordered strengthening leadership and staying vigilant against the pandemic, further enhancing collaboration among agencies, and offering timely commendation to front-line staff.

Concentrated quarantined people are required to stay for more than 14 days
On the morning of May 4, Dr. Dang Quang Tan - Director of the Preventive Medicine Department (Ministry of Health) - said that the Ministry of Health had just notified the Director of the Center for Disease Control to report to the Steering Committee content relevant to immigration isolation. Accordingly, from 0:00 on May 4, the provinces will temporarily not send home people who have finished their 14 quarantine days in concentrated facilities, even though they have negative test results.
Explaining the policy, he said that in recent times, there had been a number of cases that proved negative with COVID-19 while isolated, but still found positive after getting out, causing pandemic spread to the community. People who enter Vietnam and are currently in quarantine (under the old rule) will wait until further notice from the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention.

Provinces step up measures to cope with the pandemic
The capital city of Hanoi will temporarily shut down relic and religious sites, sidewalk eateries, and beverage outlets from 5 pm on May 3, in an effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. According to dispatch No.06/CD-UBND signed by Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh the same day, restaurants must spray disinfectants, ensure 1m distancing among customers, and encourage takeaways. Hanoi closes KTVs, discotheques, bars, and internet gaming shops since April 30. Students are asked to stay home from May 4.
Amid the complicated developments of the pandemic in many localities, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong also decided to suspend massage and sauna services, cinemas, theatres, and online game centers from 6 pm on May 3. He expressed his concern over the high risk of COVID-19 resurgence when residents return following the holiday. Earlier from 6 pm on April 30, KTVs, discotheques, and bars in the city were also ordered to close.
Da Nang suspends cultural festivals, sports, religions, beliefs, worship, art performance events. Operation of non-essential business and service establishments in areas such as entertainment, beauty establishments, bars, pubs, discotheques, KTVs, massages, theaters, casinos, internet gaming shops, exercising in the neighborhoods, night markets, gathering of more than 30 people are also halted. Students in Da Nang are also required to stay home from May 4.
The new cases brought the national count to 2,985. Also on May 3, 11 patients were given the all-clear, raising the total recoveries to 2,560 patients. The death toll remains at 35. Among the patients under treatment, 24 have tested negative for the coronavirus once, 12 twice and 38 thrice. A total of 40.505 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or arrived from pandemic-hit areas are being quarantined nationwide. After locally infected cases were detected in late April, localities around the country are tightening epidemic prevention measures. |
