Vietnam records additional 13,063 Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health announced the detection of 13,063 new Covid-19 cases on Nov. 27 to bring the national tally since the start of the pandemic up to 1,197,404. Furthermore, an additional 148 casualties were also reported. Of the new cases, 7,160 were found among the community, whilst 15 were imported.

Ho Chi Minh City once again tops the daily case list with 1,773 new infections, followed by Can Tho with 954 and Binh Duong with 716. Elsewhere, Hanoi recorded a further 310 new cases, with the pandemic has now spread to most districts of the capital. Indeed, November 26 saw Hanoi report the detection of new locally-transmitted cases in 23 out of 30 districts. From November 27 the capital will begin the process of administering the Covid-19 vaccine to ninth-grade children.

PM states the importance of producing Covid-19 vaccines and treatment drugs

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the necessity of importing Covid-19 vaccines, whilst also focusing on research in relation to producing Covid-19 treatment drugs to ensure the supply of medical equipment and biological products. This comes after PM Chinh chaired a meeting on November 27 with ministries and agencies to promote research and technology transfer for domestic production of vaccines and treatment drugs, in addition to importing these products to combat the pandemic.

The Government chief affirmed that in order to competently fight the pandemic, there must be vaccines and prevention measures put in place, in addition to raising people's awareness of pandemic prevention and control. Ensuring vaccine supplies and raising public awareness about pandemic prevention and control represent decisive and important factors in combating Covid-19, PM Chinh emphasized.

Relevant agencies must strive to redouble efforts in a bid to achieve a common goal, in the interests of both the nation and people, PM Chinh said. He did this while underlining the need to put people's health and lives first and avoid negative occurrences. The primary goal is to produce vaccines, drugs, biological products, and medical equipment domestically in a rapid and timely manner, although this must be done in a scientific way that is both safe and effective, PM Chinh stressed.

Hue to open night street zone around royal citadel in January

Authorities in Thua Thien-Hue Province, home to tourist town Hue, plan to open a night street zone around the Imperial Citadel in January to boost its nighttime economy. The zone would span four streets August 23, Dang Thai Than, Le Huan, and Doan Thi Diem, all renovated in preparation to welcome tourists.

The night street zone is expected to give visitors a chance to watch various types of art performances, experience folk games, traditional crafts, and Hue cuisine, and would be a unique highlight of Hue nightlife. During the pilot phase, Hue authorities will launch its night-street zone on Le Huan and August 23 Street on Friday and Saturday night, Vo Le Nhat, chairman of Hue, said as cited by Voice of Vietnam newspaper.

Hue Town People's Committee also assigned relevant agencies to install lighting and renovate areas around the Imperial Citadel and coordinate with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and Hue Royal Traditional Art Theater to arrange weekly art performances. Hue was the seat of the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 until the end of feudal Vietnam in 1945 and the UNESCO-recognized Imperial Citadel is well-known as a popular attraction. The town is generally known as sleepy, even somber. It has little nightlife to speak of, with the exception of a few bars and cafes.

Over 8.8 million pandemic-hit people in HCM City receive support

More than 8.8 million pandemic-hit people in Ho Chi Minh City had received assistance worth over VND 12 trillion (USD 529.27 billion) as of November 21, announced the municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. The aid packages were distributed in four phases.

In the first two ones, more than 1 million informal workers, 1.28 million poor and near-poor households along with about 21,500 small-scale traders at traditional markets received support. The city also assisted 171,000 affected workers and some 9,300 businesses that had to cease operation. In the third phase, 22 districts and Thu Duc city earmarked over VND 6.18 trillion for in excess of 6.18 million disadvantaged people or 81.2 percent of the eligible ones.

Authorities have ordered the acceleration of the distribution in the coming time to promptly support the needy.
