Handing over 50,000 masks from Vietnamese people to India
As India grapples a ravaging second coronavirus wave, Vietnam and its people have jumped in to help with medical aid.

Several groups from Vietnam have donated medical aid to India to help it fight against the coronavirus.

On May 24, INS Airavat, an amphibious warfare vessel of the Indian Navy, under the command of Capt PK Muniswamy, along with 170 officers and crew arrived at Nha Rong Port, Ho Chi Minh City to receive the supplies as gifted by the Vietnamese government, organizations, and businesses.

Welcoming the ship and crew were Lieutenant Colonel Le Nam Son, Deputy Chief of Brigade 125, Navy Region 2, Head of the Vietnam Navy delegation; representative of the Department of Foreign Affairs and HCM City Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO).

The aid included 50,000 medical masks and two tons of disinfectant solution, which was mobilized by HUFO from individuals and member organizations.

Consul General of India Madan Mohan Sethi was present at the port and represented the Indian government to receive the goods.

On May 24- 25, the crew coordinated with the Proshipser Company and the Border Guard Command to load the goods onto the ship. The INS Airavat and its crew will leave the port on the morning of May 26.

Tran Hoang Khanh Van, vice president and general secretary of HUFO, received 1 billion VND from head nun Thich Nu To Lien to support the Indian people.

In recent weeks, HUFO and the southern city's Vietnam - India Friendship Association have mobilized member organizations, individuals and benefactors in the city to support India and its people to fight against the latest Covid-19 outbreak.

On May 21, at Pho Minh Pagoda, Tran Hoang Khanh Van, HUFO vice president and general secretary attended the ceremony to donate 1 billion VND (43,500 U.S. dollars) from Ngoc Phuong, the central Vihara of the Mendicant Nuns' Order at HCM City, to support Indian Covid-19 patients.

The medical equipment and supplies show solidarity between the Vietnamese and Indian people. The move demonstrates the spirit of solidarity with the Indian people and Vietnam.

This assistance comes one week after the first batch of medical supplies donated by the Vietnamese government and people (109 ventilators and 50 oxygen generators) were shipped to Covid-stricken India.

India recorded 1,84,830 new Covid-19 cases and 3,224 new deaths on May 24. The country has so far reported a total of 26,936,641 cases and 306,977 deaths.

The second batch, which includes 100 ventilators, 275 oxygen generators, 1,300 oxygen containers, and 50,000 masks, will be shipped by an Indian Navy vessel from Ho Chi Minh City to Chennai in Tamil Nadu state over the next few days.

The total value amounts to 1.5 million U.S. dollars. Donations in cash and kind were also sent to the Indian Red Cross Society via the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and the Vietnam - India Friendship Association.
