On March 10, in Austria, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the signing ceremony of the program framework between Vietnam and the IAEA, shaping cooperation for the period 2022-2027 was held.
Ambassador Nguyen Trung Kien, representative of Vietnam to the IAEA, said that the signing of the Cooperation Program Framework between Vietnam and the IAEA is of special significance. It is in the context that Vietnam is about to take lead in the Conference of the Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development, and Training (RCA), for the 2022-2023 term.
Regarding cooperation, the Vietnamese Ambassador expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the IAEA's active support in technology transfer, equipment provision, and training for Vietnam.
These efforts help Vietnam improve its capacity in the application of nuclear technology for development. It also creates an important foundation for Vietnam to respond to many global issues such as food security, pandemic, improving the quality of agricultural products, and cleaning water sources.
Cooperation activities with the IAEA also help Vietnam build a team of experts in fields related to nuclear technology, and participate in research programs and projects launched by the IAEA.
A number of research works by Vietnamese scientists have been appreciated by the IAEA, contributing to the development of nuclear technology.
One of Vietnam's priorities in joining the IAEA Board of Governors for the 2022-2023 term is to cooperate with other members to strengthen the IAEA's role in nuclear technology development for peaceful purposes.
Through these activities, the IAEA will become more involved in solving global problems, contributing to raising awareness about the effectiveness of nuclear technology development and application.
Vietnam hopes that the IAEA will continue to focus on the program to support developing countries to accelerate the application of nuclear technology, helping the process to be carried out effectively.
IAEA Deputy Director-General for Technical Cooperation, Dr. Hua Liu said that Vietnam is the first country to sign the cooperation program framework for the period 2022-2027 with the IAEA.
This is an important document, helping the IAEA to recognize Vietnam's interest and needs in the application of nuclear technology, and assisting the IAEA in developing the annual Technical Cooperation Program.

Dr. Hua Liu said he is elated to see that cooperation projects with Vietnam in the 2022-2023 period, adopted by the IAEA Board of Governors in November 2021, are completely consistent with the content of the freshly-signed Cooperation Program Framework for the period 2022 -2027.
This shows that the cooperation process between the two sides has been carried out and achieved unexpected results.
The IAEA Deputy Director General appreciated Vietnam's role in regional cooperation on nuclear technology development, especially in training and capacity building for Laos and Cambodia, through the tripartite cooperation program between Vietnam, the IAEA and these nations.
He hoped that in the upcoming role of RCA Chairman, Vietnam would strengthen regional cooperation, especially in nuclear technology development and training in developing countries.
On this occasion, the IAEA leader invited Ambassador Nguyen Trung Kien to attend the handover ceremony of the RCA Chairman, which is set to be held on April 19.
