To celebrate the Italian Republic's 75th National Day (June 2, 1946 - June 2, 2021), on behalf of the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung sent greetings to the Italian government, people, and all the overseas Italians who are currently working and living in Vietnam.
Dung said that after a difficult year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the two countries still flexibly adapted to the situation and maintained the good traditional friendly cooperative relations on the basis of their strategic partnership, which was established in 2013 during General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's official visit to Italy.
On May 26, deputy minister To Anh Dung and Italian Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Manlio Di Stefano successfully co-chaired the third deputy foreign minister level political consultation and signed the Action Plan to implement the Vietnam - Italy Strategic Partnership for the 2021-2022 period, with a vision toward 2023 to set out specific plans and implementation process for key areas of cooperation between the two countries such as politic, diplomacy, trade and investment, security and defense, science and technology, energy, environment, culture, education.

Currently, Vietnam and Italy have become increasingly important partners of each other, especially in economy. Vietnam is Italy's largest trading partner in ASEAN, while Italy is Vietnam's fourth-largest market in the EU.
Dung said that in 2021, to take advantage of new opportunities brought by the EVFTA (European Union - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement), each country should continue facilitating the other's goods to enter its domestic market, as well as EU and ASEAN markets, aiming to increase two-way trade turnover to US$ 5 billion.
As the world is facing many challenges, with its position and role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in 2021, Vietnam hopes Italy to coordinate and promote common initiatives and actions in pandemic prevention and control, people support, and economic recovery in the post-Covid-19 period.

Dung said Vietnam highly appreciated Italy's important successes in controlling the Covid-19 pandemic. Vietnam thanked Italy for its valuable support for providing vaccines for the region and Vietnam via COVAX Facility initiated by the World Health Organization, as well as activities to support Vietnamese citizens to repatriate in the past year.
In the friendly atmosphere to celebrate Italia's 75th anniversary of the National Day, with a deep belief in the bright cooperation prospects of the two countries, Vietnam's deputy minister wished "prosperity and happiness for the Italian people” and the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Italy would be further consolidated and developed.
