Vietnam - Japan Football Tournament Promotes Friendship

On December 14, the opening ceremony of the V-2023 U13 Vietnam - Japan International Youth Football Tournament took place at Binh Duong New City Stadium (Thu Dau Mot City). This year's tournament brings together 12 U13 teams from Vietnam, Japan, and Malaysia.

This year's tournament has the participation of 4 clubs from Japan including Kawasaki Frontale, Yokohama FC, Kataller Toyama, and Shimizu S-pulse, and 1 Malaysian club (FELDA Football Academy). The Vietnamese side had 7 participating clubs including Becamex Binh Duong, Hanoi, PVF, Hue, Binh Phuoc, Dong Thap, and Phu Nhuan (Ho Chi Minh City).

12 teams will be divided equally into 3 groups, competing in a round-robin to calculate ranking points. Based on qualifying round results, selected teams will enter the semi-finals and the remaining teams will compete for ranking from 5th to 12th.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Yamada Takio emphasized: "This tournament is a great opportunity for the young generation to learn from each other and improve themselves. At the same time, this opportunity will strengthen cross-border exchanges through football."

Meanwhile, Head of the tournament organizers Yoshida Akihiro said: "The first Vietnam - Japan U13 International Youth Football Tournament, which was held in 2018, was an international playground for children of the U13 generation of both countries to interact through football."

The tournament is expected to be broadcast on Facebook, targeting audiences not only in Japan and Vietnam but also in Southeast Asian countries.
