The workshop was held by Dong A University on July 1 as an activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

As many as 24 thematic reports by more than 30 domestic and Japanese researchers were presented at the event, assessing the Vietnam - Japan relationship in many fields from history, culture, diplomacy, security-defense, economy to official development assistance (ODA), and cooperation in education, agriculture, and digital transformation.

In his remarks, Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee, said Da Nang has established friendship and official cooperative ties with four Japanese cities - Kawasaki, Sakai, Yokohama, and Kisarazu, and cooperated with 15 other provinces and cities.

The official regarded collaboration between localities as a bright spot in the diplomatic picture, he stressed.

Japan currently ranks first in terms of registered investment capital in Da Nang with more than $1 billion in up to 222 projects, accounting for 23.5% of the number of projects and 26% of the total foreign investment capital poured into the central city.

Export turnover between Da Nang and Japan reached $730 million in 2022, while import value was $440 million, significantly contributing to trade between the two countries.

Notably, Da Nang and Japan have also cooperated strongly in the fields of culture, education, and tourism, with a range of cultural exchange activities between the two sides.

Da Nang has also cooperated with Japanese universities and educational institutions in promoting partnerships in human resources, and education and training.

The central city has attracted a large number of Japanese tourists, contributing to local economic and tourism development.

The Da Nang-Narita air route has been resumed since March 26, facilitating investment, trade, and tourism promotion as well as educational and cultural exchanges between the two sides.

Speaking at the event, Japan’s Consul General in Da Nang Yakabe Yoshinori noted his hope that the Vietnam-Japan relationship will be elevated to a new height and tightened in the time ahead.

Within the framework of the workshop, a forum on "Vietnam - Japan relations: Looking towards the future" was held with the participation of leading scholars on Vietnam-Japan relations.

On the same day, the Mikazuki Group and authorities of Da Nang inaugurated a pedestrian bridge as part of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.

With a total investment of $42 billion (nearly VND1.8 million), the bridge is nearly 13 meters tall and over 140 meters long, with a floor area of approximately 655 sq.m. The pathway leading up to the bridge is designed as a knot in the art of Japanese weaving, symbolizing the strong bond between the Vietnamese and Japanese cultures./.
