Vietnam Mobile Data Costs Reported To Be Low Compared to Countries in the Region
Recently, the Ministry of Information and Communications responded to a petition from voters in Binh Thuan province regarding the prices of mobile telecommunications services.
The Ministry of Information and Communications said that according to statistics from the UK Cable organization - a company specializing in consulting and comparing cable television, Internet, and telecommunications services headquartered in Lichfield city (UK), data service rates Vietnam's mobile data in 2023 is the 21st cheapest out of 237 countries and territories in the world, ranked 6th among Asian countries. Vietnam's mobile data service prices are low compared to other countries.

In addition, mobile telecommunications businesses currently provide customers with many options with diverse service packages in terms of prices, suitable for each customer segment from students to workers, farmers, and merchants. Therefore, consumers have the right to choose packages that suit their needs as well as their ability to pay.
With the request of Binh Dinh voters to improve the quality and stability of mobile waves in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the Ministry of Information and Communications remarked that Vietnam's 4G coverage area has reached 99.8% of the population.
Test results from i-Speed, the Ministry's system for measuring Internet access speed in Vietnam, and the Speedtest tool (Ookla) show that Internet quality is always at its best. Vietnam's fixed width is stable, meeting current activities such as downloading, uploading, streaming video, social networks, and music.
On the other hand, the fixed broadband Internet access service quality standards amended by the Ministry of Information and Communications stipulate that the minimum speed that businesses must provide is 50 Mbps. The Ministry is also researching to regulate the minimum speed for network operators' mobile broadband Internet access services.
The Ministry of Information and Communications said they are implementing a program to provide public telecommunications services until 2025. According to the program, the goal is to have 100% of villages, hamlets, border areas, and communes with difficult socio-economic conditions be provided with terrestrial mobile telecommunications services.
On February 23, representatives of the Institute for Information and Communication Strategy pointed out some of Vietnam's achievements in the development of telecommunications infrastructure in recent times.
Although Vietnam is a developing country with a low middle income, the country has higher 4G coverage than high-income developed countries, with coverage being 99.8%, has a smartphone usage rate of over 84%, and fiber optic cable coverage to each household is nearly 80% compared to the world average of about 60%. Thanks to that, all people will be able to use the Internet and access digital space.

By 2025, the fixed broadband network will meet national standards (QCVN) on service quality to universalize it to all villages and hamlets, ensuring 100% of households have access to the cable when needed. 90% of users can access fixed Internet, with an average speed of 200 Mb/s, and 90% of socio-economic organizations such as enterprises, production and business establishments, schools, hospitals, and offices in urban areas can access the Internet with an average speed of 1 Gb/s.
The mobile broadband network also meets QCVN in terms of service quality, with a target average download speed of at least 40 Mb/s for 4G networks and 100 Mb/s for 5G networks.
According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, it is expected that by mid-April 2024, they will have instructions for localities on implementing the new phase of Information and Communications Infrastructure Planning.
