Vietnamese, Lao Party chiefs hold phone talks

Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong held phone talks with Party General Secretary and Prime Minister of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith on February 2.

Trong thanked the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee, ministries, agencies, the Lao Front for National Construction and political organizations of Laos for sending letters of congratulations to Viet Nam on the success of the 13th National Party Congress, vividly reflecting Viet Nam – Laos special solidarity.

Informing the Lao leader about outstanding results of the 13th National Party Congress, Trong affirmed that the Congress has been a success, marking an important milestone in the development of the Party and country.

He also congratulated Laos' achievements in recent times, and expressed his belief that under the sound leadership of the LPRP led by Thongloun Sisoulith, the Lao people will continue reaping greater successes in the cause of national defense and construction, as well as successfully realizing the Resolution adopted at its 11th National Party Congress.

Speaking highly of Party chief Trong’s role and contributions to Viet Nam's national construction and defense and Laos – Viet Nam special solidarity, Thongloun Sisoulith believed that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) headed by Trong, the Vietnamese people will continue gaining greater achievements in the national construction and defense, building a strong and prosperous country by the mid-21st century.

On the occasion, the Lao Party chief extended his best wishes to Party chief Trong and the CPV Central Committee on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of the CPV.

He expressed his profound thanks to the Vietnamese Party, State and people for providing valuable and effective support for the Lao counterparts.

The two leaders stressed that as 2021 is the first year to carry out Resolutions adopted at their Party congresses, both countries should stay determined to overcome challenges and effectively realize the agreements set by the two Parties and countries’ leaders, as reported by VGP.

Cambodia’s ruling party leader congratulates Vietnam on Party Congress success

President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) during phone talks with Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on February 3.

Hun Sen also congratulated Trong on his re-election as General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee.

He spoke highly of the tremendous achievements that Vietnam has made in recent years, and expressed his belief under the leadership of the CPV led by Trong, the Vietnamese people will continue to reap greater achievements in national development and international integration.

The Cambodian leader also sent his best wishes to the CPV and its General Secretary on the occasion of the Party’s 91st founding anniversary (February 3).

For his part, Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong thanked Hun Sen for his congratulations, and wished the Cambodian people would record more comprehensive achievements in national construction and development, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world at large.

Both leaders hailed the fruitful cooperation in various areas between the two ruling parties and countries over the years, and affirmed both sides will work closely together to effectively implement high-level agreements reached between their top leaders, according to VOV.

Twenty COVID-19 cases confirmed national tally reaches 1,911

Viet Nam confirmed 20 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon, raising the patient tally to 1,911.

The latest patients include 19 community transmission cases and one imported cases.

Among the local infections, 14 are in Hai Duong, four in Quang Ninh, and one in Gia Lai.

The national is placing 48,829 people under medical surveillance and quarantine nationwide, of these 378 are kept at hospitals, 22,610 at centralized quarantine sites and 25,841 at places of residence.

Thanks to quick and drastic measures, the COVID-19 clusters in Hai Duong and Quang Ninh have been basically controlled. However, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam stressed the need to continue doubling efforts in contain the COVID-19 outbreaks in order to ensure a safe Lunar New Year holiday even in the pandemic-stricken areas, according to VGP.

Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh presents Tet gifts to needy people in Soc Trang

A working delegation from central agencies, led by Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, visited and presented gifts to ethnic minority families and the poor in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang on February 3 in the runup to the Tet (Lunar New Year) Festival.

He presented 300 Tet gifts worth VND1,150,000 each local household living in difficult circumstances.

The delegation also gave donations worth total over VND356 million to a school for children with disabilities in the province.

On the occasion, the Deputy PM lauded the socio-economic development achievements Soc Trang has gained over recent years.

He also asked Party committees and authorities at all levels as well as armed forces in the province to continue to implement practical activities to care for poor households and policy beneficiaries during Tet festival, NDO reported.

European business leaders optimistic about Vietnam’s economic outlook

The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (Eurocham) has unveiled the latest Business Climate Index (BCI), indicating that European business leaders concluded last year in a more optimistic mood regarding the country’s trade and investment environment than at any other point since the initial outbreak of the COVID-19.

As reported by VOV, the BCI climbed six points during the final quarter of 2020 to reach 63.6, ending last year on a high. The index therefore rose by a total of 37 points over the course of last year following a drop to a historic low in the first quarter due to the initial outbreak of COVID-19. Since then, the BCI has been able to maintain positive growth following the country’s successful handling of the pandemic, along with the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) which served to improve confidence whilst boosting business.

When asked about the nation’s economic prospects moving into the next quarter, 57% of EuroCham members anticipate “stabilization and improvement” during the opening three months of the year, a sharp rise in comparison to 39% in the third quarter of 2020, a rise in confidence of 18%.

With regard to the prospects of their own enterprises, European business leaders proved to be far more positive and optimistic in the fourth quarter. One third of EuroCham members predicted a rise in their headcount during the next quarter, with a further 57% expecting to maintain the same level. Meanwhile, 30% anticipate a rise in investment and 43% predict a rise in orders and revenue.
