Vietnam extends congratulations to Ghana on National Day

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong on March 5 sent a congratulatory message to President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo on the occasion of the country’s 64th National Day (March 6, 1957-2021).

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh extended his congratulations to Ghanaian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, according to NDO.

Vietnam, Venezuela seek to beef up friendship, cooperation

Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Jorge Arreaza has affirmed that his country always attaches great importance to and wants to further strengthen the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam.

During his virtual talks with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh on March 5, Arreaza congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 13th National Party Congress, while praising the Southeast Asian country’s efforts in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic as well as in maintaining economic growth momentum.

Deputy PM Minh briefed on Vietnam’s situation and the outstanding outcome of the 13th National Party Congress as well as the country’s COVID-19 response measures and solutions to promote socio-economic development and ensure social security.

He affirmed that Vietnam supports efforts by the constitutional government of Venezuela to promote political dialogue on the basis of respecting Venezuela’s Constitution and aspirations of Venezuelan people, thus gradually solving difficulties and boosting socio-economic development in the current context.

The two officials focused their discussion on measures to further enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to maintain mechanisms to promote cooperation between the two nations, especially the Vietnam-Venezuela Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation and the Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, as reported by NDO.

Deputy PM, FM Minh holds phone conversation with Singaporean FM

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had a phone conversation with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on Thursday.

According to VGP, the two sides discussed on bilateral cooperation between Viet Nam and Singapore and regional and international issues of shared concerns.

Vivian congratulated on Viet Nam’s success of the 13th National Party Congress as well as its good management of the COVID-19 pandemic and positive socio-economic outcomes.

He affirmed Singapore attaches importance to the relationship with Viet Nam, especially amid current complicated developments in the region and the world.

Meanwhile, Deputy PM, FM Minh expressed thanks for Singapore’s support for Viet Nam as the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in the tenure 2020-2021.

Minh suggested that both countries accelerate the exchange of delegations at mutually convenient time and that Singapore assist Viet Nam in accessing vaccine sources.

Regarding regional and international issues, both sides shared their wish that stability would be restored soon in Myanmar, pledging to continue joining ASEAN’s joint efforts in seeking solutions to the issue in Myanmar.

Chinese national among six new COVID-19 cases

Viet Nam confirmed six new imported cases of COVID-19 on Friday, raising the national patient tally to 2,494.

The latest cases comprised five Vietnamese and one Chinese national, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control led by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

Specifically, patient 2489 is a 52-year-old woman in Tay Truong Commune, Hoa Thanh Town, Tay Ninh Province.

She returned to Viet Nam on February 22 via Moc Bai International Border Gate.

Among the national caseload, 1,920 have recovered and exited hospitals and 35 others have been reported dead.

The nation set to begin COVID-19 vaccinations from March 8, with health workers at 18 COVID-19 patient treatment facilities to be vaccinated first, VGP reported.

Women to hold key leadership positions in 60% of state management agencies by 2025

Women are set to hold key leadership positions in 60% of state management agencies and local administrations at all levels by 2025, increasing to 75% by 2030, according to the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2021 to 2030 period which was recently approved by the Government. Moving forward, the strategy also outlines a number of new goals set by the country to make further progress in terms of gender equality across various areas, along with fulfilling its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

In line with this, the number of paid women employees nationwide will rise to 50% by 2025 and to around 60% by 2030. Elsewhere, the percentage of women working in the agricultural sector among all employed women is set to drop to below 30% by 2025, dropping to less than 25% by 2030.

Furthermore, the rate of female directors or business owners is anticipated to reach at least 27% by 2025, later rising to 30% by 2030.

The country is also striving to reduce the average amount of time that women spend on doing unpaid housework to 1.7 times that of men by 2025, dropping to 1.4 times compared to men by 2030.

Moving ahead to 2025, it is anticipated that 80% of women suffering from domestic and gender-based violence will receive access to at least one form of basic support services, with this expected to hit 90% by 2030.

The sex ratio at birth will stand at 111 boys per 100 girls by 2025, moving to 109 boys per 100 girls by 2030. The maternal mortality rate is also set to fall to 42 per 100,000 live births by 2025, and then to below 42 per 100,000 live births by 2030.

Moreover, gender and gender equality will be integrated into the national curriculum being taught at schools and pedagogical universities from 2025, VOV reported.
