NA General Secretary: “Elections have gone smoothly so far"

“ Up to now, it can be assessed that the election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and the People's Councils at all-levels for the 2021 to 2026 term has taken place successfully," has said Bui Van Cuong, Secretary General of the National Assembly.

As of 5:30 p.m. on May 23, the national voter turnout rate stood at 95.65%, with the highest rate recorded in some localities reaching 99.92%, whilst the lowest was 84%, Bui Van Cuong, secretary general of the National Assembly (NA) and chief of the Office of the National Election Council (NEC) told the media.

According to reports issued by 63 provinces and cities nationwide, the overall number of voters heading to the polls reached 66,213,984, equivalent to 95.65%, of which roughly 32,000 constituencies recorded 100% voters, with the majority of localities seeing extremely high turnout.

These figures reflect the high number of voters throughout the country who are eager to exercise their rights and obligations as citizens, especially in terms of their responsibility to develop a law-governed socialist state. Indeed, it can be considered that local people take their responsibility towards the nation seriously.

Most notably, despite the elections taking place amid complicated developments relating to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a range of prevention measures were put in place at all polling stations across the country to ensure that the process took place in a safe and smooth manner, VOV said.

Elections show strength of Vietnamese people: NA Chairman

The elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly (NA) and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure create a vivid illustration of the Vietnamese people’s strength, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue has said.

Speaking with the press after casting his ballot in Hai Phong city on May 23, the leader stressed that over the past 75 years, the Vietnamese parliament has completed its missions as entrusted by the people and the State, saying under the resolution adopted at the 13th National Party Congress, the NA will strongly reform its activities across law making, supreme supervision, and making decision on important issues, NDO reported.

He spoke highly of the responsibility of the voters who cast early ballots, adding they make significant contributions to the success of the elections.

He expressed his hope that voters nationwide will exercise their citizen rights and duty to select the best representatives to the 15th NA and People’s Councils at all levels.

The election will be a fine success, the leader affirmed.

Border guard forces of Vietnam, China, Laos meet to boost coordination

The border guard forces of Vietnam, China, and Laos met at the countries’ border T-junction on May 22 to discuss border management and defence measures and launch a week-long joint border management programme.

The event was attended by representatives from the A Pa Chai border guard post of Vietnam’s northwestern province of Dien Bien, the Jiangcheng border management company of China’s Yunnan province, and the border guard unit at Yot Ou district of Laos’ Phongsaly province.

They also looked into the coordination in preventing illegal border crossings, receiving and returning citizens, and exchanging information about pandemic prevention and control.

Dien Bien province shares more than 455km of borderlines with China and Laos, according to VNA.

Vietnam makes considerable progress in gender equality promotion: Moroccan diplomat

Vietnam has made considerable progress in promoting gender equality, which is shown in areas of education, employment and women’s engagement in the country’s political life, Moroccan Ambassador to Vietnam Jamale Chouaibi has said.

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) ahead of the general elections slated for May 23, the diplomat noted that the ratio of female deputies in the 14th National Assembly (NA) is 26.8 percent, much higher than the average in Asian countries, at 19 percent.

Meanwhile, the ratio of women holding leadership positions is on the rise in many sectors, reflecting the country’s achievements in enhancing gender equality.

According to the ambassador, female legislators have made great contributions to the socio-economic development of Vietnam over the past years.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese women have also helped foster the country’s economic development, he said, noting that Vietnam ranks second in Southeast Asia in the ratio of women undertaking management positions in both private and State-run enterprises.

Chouaibi said that in the elections of deputies to the 15th NA and People’s Councils at all levels, the rate of female candidates is more than 45 percent, which is also a positive signal, encouraging women to contribute further to the country’s development policies.

The ambassador also lauded the efforts by Party and State leaders in ensuring that people from ethnic minority groups have their voices in the top legislative body, as reported by VOV.
