Vietnam - Pakistan Enhance People-to-people Relations and Cultural Exchanges

A delegation from the Embassy of Pakistan to Vietnam visited the mausoleum of Ho Chi Minh on Jan. 18 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Pakistan
According to the embassy, this visit marks the start of the Golden celebration of Pakistan-Vietnam diplomatic relations and a series of activities towards the 50th anniversary.
Then Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan established official diplomatic relations on Nov. 8, 1972, opening a new page in bilateral relations, friendship, and cooperation.
Pakistan and Vietnam enjoy a friendly relationship based on mutual respect. The two both have made efforts to enhance economic ties. Two-way trade has increased over the past decade.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Vietnam, Samina Mehtab appreciates President Ho Chi Minh for his unyielding struggle against colonialism and his invaluable merits for the Vietnamese people. She emphasized the close friendship between the two countries and said the relations had great potential for cooperation.
Ambassador Samina Mehtab said Pakistan attached great importance to the relations with Vietnam and wished to expand cooperation in all fields of mutual interest. Mehtab stated nothing could hinder the further consolidation of the two countries' friendship. With their efforts, Vietnam and Pakistan can expand the scope of bilateral cooperation.
"Pakistan and Vietnam always have a close relationship. Both countries have outstanding cooperation in different fields, especially economy and trade. I believe with the enduring effort we can bring the two countries and peoples closer," said the ambassador.

Pakistan's main imports from Vietnam include mobile phones, green tea, black pepper, seafood, rubber, and textile products, while the country exports to Vietnam fabrics, cotton, yarns, raw materials for leather products, seafood, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. The total value of import and export turnover between the two countries has an encouraging growth, increasing from 579 million USD (2015-2016) to 690 million USD (2020-2021). |
The Pakistani Ambassador emphasized the necessity of nurturing people-to-people relations and cultural exchange. The Pakistani government regularly provides capacity-building courses for Vietnamese officials, which are held at the Foreign Service Academy of Pakistan, Pakistan Railway Academy, and the National Institute of Banking & Finance.

Deputy Secretary-General of Vietnam's National Assembly, Chairman of Vietnam - Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group Nguyen Truong Giang expressed his belief that with promising momentum and 50-year experience, as well as the joint efforts, the Vietnam - Pakistan friendship and cooperation would achieve greater heights, meeting the interests of the peoples and countries, toward peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the region and the world.
Vietnam and Pakistan also assist each other in international forums. Vietnam has supported Pakistan to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2002-2003 tenure and Pakistan took its turn to vote for Vietnam in the 2008-2009 term. Pakistan supported Vietnam's participation in the World Trade Organization in 2006. Vietnam sided with Pakistan in the re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2008-2011 tenure.
In the visit, ambassador Samina Mehtab and the embassy's delegation placed a ring of flowers in Uncle Ho's mausoleum, and listen to the introduction of Uncle Ho's memorial house.
