The Vietnam Peace Committee expressed its elation that the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) takes effect from January 22, 2021.
This event marks another important milestone in the fight against nuclear weapons after the Treaty was adopted by the United Nations on 7, July 2017. This victory was not only thanks to the ratifications of 51 United Nations members but also the efforts and contributions of all peace movements and peace-loving people in the world.
We are aware that the total elimination of nuclear weapons is still a long way when the nations possessing nuclear weapons have not joined the Treaty and many others are still researching, developing, producing, trading and threatening to use nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
The Vietnam Peace Committee calls on governments to join, sign and ratify the Treaty; respect Treaty as well as international laws and agreements in general and stop the use or threaten the use of force in international relations. All disputes and differences need to be resolved via peaceful solutions.
The Vietnam Peace Committee calls on all peace movements, people's organizations and peace-loving people in the world to strengthen solidarity and cooperation to better combat against nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction for a world of peace, stability and sustainable development.
The Vietnam Peace Committee commits to join hands with peace-loving forces in the world to ensure that tragedies that took place in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or in Vietnam and other countries will never reoccur.
Hope for peace on Earth.
