Despite the geographical distance, in recent years Vietnam and Peru have made important strides in promoting political, diplomatic, economic, trade and investment relations, Deputy Foreign Minister Ha Kim Ngoc said at the ceremony to celebrate the 203rd anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Peru and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Peru on July 31 in Hanoi.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Peru in Vietnam.

When mentioning Peru, Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc said, Vietnamese people think of a beautiful country with rich and diverse nature in the South American region, with the Pacific coastal plains, the high mountains of the Andes and the Amazon rainforest. A country with many imprints of the brilliant Inca civilization, unique cultural and architectural heritages such as Machu Picchu, Arequipa, which preserves many historical and cultural values ​​of Peru, has become a destination for millions of international tourists every year, including an increasing number of Vietnamese tourists.

He affirmed that in the process of building and developing the country today, Vietnam has always received the attention, sharing, solidarity, and support of the people of the world, the people of Latin American countries, including the people of Peru. Vietnam always remembers and cherishes that precious sentiment, Ngoc stressed.

The senior leaders of the two sides regularly have bilateral meetings and contacts. The two countries have established essential cooperation mechanisms such as the Vietnam - Peru Inter-Governmental Committee on Economic Issues and Technical Cooperation, political consultation between the Foreign Ministries, as well as many agreements and Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation.

"Vietnam wishes to strengthen substantive and effective cooperation in all fields with Peru, promoting trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges. Our common goal is to build and develop both countries while maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world," Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc affirmed.

Speaking at the ceremony, Peruvian Ambassador to Vietnam, Patricia Yolanda Raez Portocarrrero pointed out many bilateral dialogue mechanisms, from politics, diplomacy to economics and trade the two countries have established over the past 30 years. In the field of trade, Lima is Vietnam's 6th trade partner in Latin America with a trade turnover of more than USD 700 million by 2023. Vietnam is the main Southeast Asian investor in Peru with an investment of USD 1.3 billion from two companies Viettel and Petrovietnam, focusing on the telecommunications and energy sectors.

The Ambassador also discussed notable developments that have contributed to elevating bilateral ties. Both countries are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), so there is still much potential for cooperation, especially when many products enjoy tax exemptions between the two countries.

She finally mentioned one of Peru's main goals now is to increase exports to Vietnam to balance trade relations. With the opening of the major port of Chancay in Peru in November 2024, the shipping time between the two countries will be shortened from 40 days to 25 days, helping to increase the efficiency of goods exchange and open up many opportunities in the transportation sector.
