Vietnam presents medical supplies to Cambodian localities

The An Giang Border Guard High Command and Binh Phuoc provincial youth union have presented necessities and medical supplies to Cambodia’s localities to assist them in combating the novel coronavirus.

The Border Guard High Command of An Giang province on June 9 held a ceremony to present cash and medical supplies to the forces of managing and protecting the border of Takeo and Kandal provinces, Cambodia.

The donations included VND 810 million (US$ 35,191) in cash; 4,200 face masks; 4,200 bottles of hand sanitizer and 12 boxes of medicines, worth a total of nearly VND 2 billion, Dan Tri reported.

At the handover ceremony, the two sides briefed each other on the Covid-19 situation in their locality and agreed to continue enhancing cooperation in patrolling and protecting the border to prevent illegal entry and exit.

Lieutenant General Soc Som Nang, the director of the Takeo Provincial Police extended his thanks to the An Giang Border Guard High Command for their timely and valuable assistance.

He said that the forces of managing and protecting the border of Takeo and Kandal provinces and An Giang Border Guard High Command had closely collaborated in performing assigned tasks in a spirit of solidarity and friendship.

He expressed his hope that the two countries would work more closely to soon stamp out the pandemic.

An Giang shares a 100-km-long border with Cambodia. The province has erected a total of 202 checkpoints along the border to avert illegal entry and exit.

The Binh Phuoc provincial youth union, in coordination with Bu Gia Map district on June 9 organized a ceremony to hand over necessities and medical supplies to Ou Reang district, Mondul Kiri province, Cambodia to support it in fighting against the novel coronavirus

The aid comprised of 35,000 medical face masks, 40 boxes of hand sanitizer, 200 kg of rice, 55 boxes of instant noodles and many other necessities, worth a total of VND 115 million.

Secretary of Binh Phuoc Provincial Youth Union Tran Quoc Duy, said: "Through this meaningful activity, Binh Phuoc youth hopes that the two sides will continue to closely cooperate in border management and protection to prevent illegal entry and exit as well as promote special solidarity, great friendship, and comprehensive cooperation."

On the same day, the Binh Phuoc Provincial Youth Union visited and gifted 2,000 medical face masks, two boxes of hand sanitizer and many other necessities with a total value of VND 9 million to the centralized quarantine facility in Loc Ninh district.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn highly appreciated the aid and support of the Vietnamese Government and people for the fight against Covid-19 in Cambodia, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a press release issued on June 8.

The press release informed on the outcomes of the Deputy PM and FM’s working visit to Chongqing, China on June 7 – 8 to attend the ASEAN-China Special Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the 6th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Cambodia's death toll from Covid-19 has risen to 300 on Thursday after 11 new fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

The Southeast Asian nation also logged 426 new cases, bringing the national tally to 36,666 so far, the statement said, adding that the new infections included 380 local cases and 46 imported cases.

Meanwhile, the kingdom also saw 760 patients recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,807, it added.

Cambodia has been suffering the third wave of Covid-19 community transmissions since Feb. 20. In a bid to flatten the infection curve, the country has closed down all schools, fitness centers, museums, cinemas, and entertainment venues nationwide.

The country began a Covid-19 inoculation drive on Feb 10.

To date, more than 2.77 million out of the 10 million targeted population have received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose, the health ministry’s secretary of state and spokeswoman Or Vandine said, adding that some 2.28 million of them have been fully vaccinated with two doses.
