Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Uoc - Chief of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center., Vietnam - Germany Friendship Hospital (Viet Duc) said, "Patient H. was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, end-stage heart failure 7 months ago. Tests showed that he has severe heart failure and that he must use high-dose heart-relieving drugs continuously."

"Recently, his condition is getting even worse.", the doctor added, "all treatments for patient H are almost ineffective. The child only has one chance to live, that is to get a heart transplant. Luckily, while his life is counting by days, H received a heart from a 19-year-old male, brain-dead from a traffic accident. The organ score of the donor and the recipient is completely consistent, although the body index of the donor is 3.5 times that of the recipient."

After the transplantation, the child received active treatment at the Department of Resuscitation, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center, Vietnam - Germany Friendship Hospital. Currently, after 4 days of surgery, the patient is awake, hemodynamically stable. He can sit up, has recognized the medical staff and relatives, and can eat and drink.

The doctors conducted heart, liver, 2 kidney transplant for 4 patients at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital. His 2 corneas were transferred to Eye Bank. Currently, all transplant patients in the hospital are under stable condition."

To date, the Vietnam - Germany Hospital has performed 5 lung transplants, 36 heart transplants, 92 liver transplants, and nearly 1,100 kidney transplants. The hospital is the country's leading center for multi-organ transplantation from dead-brain donors. All post-transplant patients are healthy and have returned to daily life.
