On October 4, Le Quang Tu Do, head of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information said that the Department had issued a document on October 3 asking Netflix to remove the South Korean TV drama "Little Women" (Vietnamese title: "Ba chị em") in Vietnam due to content that distorts history.

The deadline for this request is October 5.

The drama violated the prohibited acts specified in Clause 4, Article 9 of the Press Law on distorting history, denying revolutionary achievements, and insulting the nation.

It also violated the prohibited acts in cinematographic activities specified in Clause 4, Article 11 of the Law on Cinema with the same content as the above-mentioned clause in the Press Law.

The alleged violations are depicted in episodes 3 from 58:01 to 58:22, and 8 from 5:41 to 7:01 when actors speak about the war.

In episode eight of the 12-part drama, a war veteran from South Korea is seen bragging about the "kill-to-death ratio" between troops from his country and Vietnam.

More than 320,000 South Koreans were sent to Vietnam between 1964 and 1973 to fight alongside US soldiers.

They have long faced allegations that they committed mass killings of Vietnamese civilians, cited Channel News Asia.

The war veteran in the series, a Korean, tells one of the main characters in the show that "in our best battles, the kill-to-death ratio for Korean troops was 20:1. That's 20 Viet Cong killed for one Korean soldier dead".

He then goes on to say the ratio was even higher in South Korea's favor among the country's elite soldiers.

It is not known how many North Vietnamese soldiers were killed by South Korean troops during the war.

Tu Do said Netflix has responded to the Department's written request and currently processing it.

"Little Women" is a South Korean TV drama adaptation of the famous novel of the same name by author Louisa May Alcott. The drama's plot has been changed to better suit modern Korean audiences but still keeps the core messages of the novel.

The drama tells the story of three sisters of the Oh family: In Joo (Kim Go Eun), In Kyung (Nam Ji Hyun) and In Hye (Park Ji Hoo).

However, in episodes 5, 7, and 8, the series mentions the war and distorts the history of Vietnam.

Immediately after this information was shared, a series of groups discussing Korean films announced that they would stop updating information related to "Little Women".

Many viewers called for a boycott of the drama.

"Movies are for entertainment, but history must be true. Absolutely do not watch"; “How can one make a movie that changes history, glorifying these barbaric soldiers? Although the film borrowed that story to condemn the act of being a mercenary for the US, it is unacceptable when it is repeated like that!" some viewers commented.
