Spanning more than 70 years, the relationship between Vietnam and the Soviet Union, now the Russian Federation, is a bright spot with many special features.
Special things in Vietnam-Russia's relationship
In the 1920s, Nguyen Ai Quoc went to the Soviet Union to find a way to liberate the nation through Lenin's Theses on National and Colonial Questions. Events a hundred years ago were the first bricks that laid the foundation for a special relationship that continues today.
During the arduous years of struggle for independence and defense of Vietnam's sovereignty, ups and downs, peoples of Vietnam and Russia have stood side by side. Friendship is cultivated with the sweat and blood of the two peoples. A number of Soviet experts died in the resistance war against the US to save the country, on construction works and peacetime economic cooperation.
Vietnam and Russia have a close, similar approach on many international and regional issues; closely coordinate and support each other in international, regional forums and organizations. Loyalty in an increasingly volatile world is a special thing between the two countries.
The relationship between the two countries is constantly developing, reaching the highest level - Comprehensive strategic partnership. Up to now, Vietnam has only established relations at this highest level with three countries.
What makes the attachment is the tradition of friendship, fidelity, harmony in soul and emotion; similarity in strong national character, resilience, spirit, especially the duality of national interests. High-level political trust is the opening factor, the foundation for relations and cooperation in all fields, in the past, present and future.

Among them are the main orientations to promote tradition and bring bilateral relations to a new height. Political trust and friendship tradition are the foundation and driving force; defense, security and military cooperation holds an important position; cooperation in education - training, science - technology are among the key cooperation directions.
The two countries continue to expand and improve cooperation in traditional and new fields. Economic cooperation takes advantage of the two countries' strengths in export, import, investment, mining and high technology. Cooperation in energy, oil and gas opens up new projects, worthy of the top important pillar, meaningful both in terms of economy and national sovereignty. Enhancing the effectiveness of comprehensive cooperation, with economic cooperation as the pillar, makes the comprehensive strategic partnership, political relationship substantive, vibrant and sustainable.
The above principles and orientations meet the interests and enhance the role of each country in bilateral and multilateral cooperation, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world. That shows the responsibility and contribution of Vietnam and Russia to the region and the world.
