Vietnam Shares New Year Joy with Students of Laos, Cambodia

Many agencies in the political system and organizations have held several Tet gift-giving events for disadvantaged Lao and Cambodian students currently studying in the country.
The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee on Jan.23-24 organized visits and gave gifts to 55 disadvantaged Lao and Cambodian students living and working in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
On the morning of Jan. 23, the Secretary of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, Nguyen Minh Triet, and the president of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association presented gifts to support 25 international students in difficult situations in the area.
Triet and delegates encouraged the students to overcome the difficulties of the complicated situation of the Covid-19, study hard, achieve good results and contribute to the development of the youth union and student association.
The delegation handed over the gifts to 15 students who are members of the student association with difficult circumstances. Each gift includes an in-kind gift and VND 1 million (USD 44).
25 other gifts were given to students from Laos and Cambodia, each includes including gifts and VND 500,000 (USD 22).

At the foreign student dormitory of Hanoi University of Transport and Communications, there have been positive cases since the beginning of last week. On Jan. 24, the Hanoi Youth Union and the University's Youth Union promptly delivered food and necessities, to Lao and Cambodian students living at the dormitory; including those who are infected with Covid-19.
Sharing with Vietnam Times' reporter, Seng Visak, a Cambodian student at K59 Electronics and Telecommunications Class, were touched by the affection of Vietnamese, saying that this year, due to the Covid-19, he will stay in Vietnam to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year.
"I feel happy because the school always cares about international students whenever they have difficulties and during the Lunar New Year. Everyone's concern and sharing have helped me to no longer miss my family. I love the country and people of Vietnam and consider this place as his second homeland," said Seng Visak.
Before that, on Jan. 18, the university also organized a visit and deliver 60 support packages worth VND 500,000 each to the students.

Earlier, HCM City Power Corporation also presented Tet gifts to Lao and Cambodian students in the southern city.
The gifts were presented by young workers of the corporation which also signed an agreement with the dormitory of Lao students to organize many cultural and sports exchanges between local young workers and students of Laos and Cambodia in celebration of the traditional New Year festivals of the three countries.
At the event, participants learned about the Tet customs of Vietnam through playing folk games, making traditional dishes, and trying calligraphy.
The activity was also meant to give spiritual support to Lao and Cambodian students who have to be far away from their families for a long time due to the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact.

In a similar move, the Buddhism Today Foundation on Jan. 24 has visited the dormitory of the HCM City University of Technology, encouraged and gave Tet gifts to 13 foreign students who are stuck in Vietnam because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
