Vietnam, Spain to Step up Cooperation in Various Fields

At the reception, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the defense cooperation between Vietnam and Spain still has much room to develop, in accordance with the needs and capabilities of each country. He suggested the two sides focus on exchanging delegations at all levels; promoting training cooperation, especially in teaching Spanish.

Vietnam welcomes Spanish military students to study Vietnamese at the Academy of Military Sciences and attend the International Defense Officer Course at the National Defense Academy. The General suggested strengthen cooperation in performing UN peacekeeping mission, cooperate in strategic exchanges, share experiences and support the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense in dealing with war aftermath, and continue to coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums.

On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang congratulated Carmen Cano De Lasala, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain on her tenure in Vietnam. He said that Vietnam attaches importance to and highly values ​​the cooperation with Spain. He hopes to bring the bilateral relationship to a new height, commensurate with the two countries' potential for cooperation.

Over the past time, the Vietnam - Spain defense cooperation has been implemented in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation signed in 2010. The two sides' cooperation have achieved results in various areas, such as delegation exchanges, training, defense industry, United Nations peacekeeping operations.

Ambassador Carmen Cano De Lasala expressed her good feelings for the people and country of Vietnam. She expressed her sympathy over the loss caused by Typhoon Yagi and highly appreciated the disaster response capacity of the Vietnam People's Army. Regarding bilateral defense cooperation, she suggested that the two sides continue to promote cooperation, especially in training and performing United Nations peacekeeping missions.
