Vietnam, Switzerland and Germany Strengthen Educational Cooperation

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son on April 13 had a meeting with the delegation led by Philipp Rösler, former Deputy Prime Minister of Germany, Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Switzerland.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Kim Son commented on the friendly relationship between the two countries; "Diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Switzerland have been established for more than 50 years, and have made significant progress in various fields, including education and training. Education-training, science-technology cooperation between Vietnam, Switzerland and Germany needs to be strengthened."

The Minister hopes that Philipp Rösler will continue to make connections, introduce universities in Switzerland and Germany with the university system of Vietnam.

Bilateral cooperation between universities becomes important, in the context that the demand for human resources in technology and engineering is growing.

The Minister wishes that Dr. Philipp Rösler will pay more attention to cooperation in scientific research and training cooperation in technology and engineering.

“We are learning more about the model of higher education and vocational training, training in universities, in enterprises and factories,” said the Minister.

He also said that Vietnamese students need to improve their practical working ability, professional skills, and understanding of the technology fields that businesses need.

The Minister also shared some other content, hoping to receive the support of Philipp Rösler. Those contents are related to the exchange of scientific research, the establishment of joint research groups between Vietnamese and European scientists, including Germany and Switzerland.

According to the Minister, student and scientists exchange and the establishment of joint research groups are short way to strengthen scientific ground.

Dr. Philipp Rösler said that supporting Vietnam's vocational training, as well as higher-level research, is his mission and responsibility.

He also said that the Ministry of Education and Training is the pioneer agency to bring Vietnam's economy and society to development. Education - training is a prerequisite to help Vietnamese youth integrate into the world.

“After working and living in many countries, I am proud that Vietnamese youth are intelligent, creative and dynamic, no less than any other country,” said Philipp Rösler said.

He informed about the idea of setting up training institutions to boost vocational education and training in Vietnam on the basis of learning lessons from Germany. “In parallel with strengthening digital transformation, Vietnam needs to focus on vocational training,” Philipp Rösler said.

He also said that on April 12, FPT University and Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT), Jacobs University Bremen (JUB) signed a memorandum of understanding.

One of the contents of the cooperation program is student exchange between the two universities particularly, between Vietnam and Switzerland, Germany. The majors, which are focused on are technology, science, especially computer science.

He expressed agreement with the proposals of the Minister, especially in strengthening exchange and cooperation between universities of Vietnam and Switzerland. Dr. Philipp Rösler said he had ideas for the collaboration.

At the meeting, members of the delegation all had positive assessments about the qualities of Vietnamese students and young people.

Dr. Serg Bell, founder & chairman of the Board, Schaffhausen Institute of Technology (SIT), said that Vietnam has advantages compared to neighboring countries in terms of scientific development. Vietnam has the potential and conditions to become a science center.
