On March 19, Vietnam's Permanent Mission to the United Nations (UN), and other international organizations in Geneva held a meeting with the Vietnamese community in Switzerland, and raised funds for people in Truong Sa (Spratly) island district, Khanh Hoa province.

The meeting created conditions for overseas Vietnamese and young people to better understand the situation of the country, strengthen solidarity in a place with an important position in politics, economy and negotiations in Europe.

Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai said that with the policy of the Party and State, our country has succeeded in maintaining the speed of economic development in recent years. National defense, security and continue to be maintained; social security and welfare are guaranteed, people's living standards continue to be improved. The country's position in the international arena is improving.

With the social and economic disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government has implemented a safe, flexible adaptation strategy to realize the dual goals of pandemic control, economic recovery and development. Vietnam has a stable macroeconomics and is one of the few countries that has maintained a positive gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate over the past two years (2.91% in 2020 and 2.58% in 2021).

The socio-economic situation in Vietnam in the first two months of 2022 has bright spots. Two-month registered FDI capital increased by 123.8%, showing investment demand and foreign investors' expectations for the country's economic recovery and development. During the above period, the number of enterprises entering and returning to the market increased by 46.2% over the same period last year.

Vietnam has successfully carried out a vaccine strategy, accelerated vaccine diplomacy, and established a vaccine fund. Vietnam has also stepped up import, research, and technology transfer for vaccine production and launched the largest vaccination campaign in history.

Vietnam has become one of the 6 countries with the highest vaccine coverage rate in the world. It contributes to repelling the pandemic, protecting the people's health and life, and helping the country return to a new normal.

Responding to the Vietnamese Government's call to join hands in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, overseas Vietnamese made a great contribution, supporting VND80 billion (US$3.49 million) in cash, medical equipment and supplies. Remittances in 2021 reached a record of US$18.1 billion, up 5.2%.

The Vietnamese Party and State always consider the overseas Vietnamese community an integral part and resource of Vietnam.

The Party and State appreciates the contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community. This is reflected in their contribution and support to the people in the country in responding to natural disasters, floods and the pandemic.

In the context of safe adaptation to the pandemic, the "Homeland Spring" program was held just before the Lunar New Year.

This has become an activity that contributes to strengthening the spirit of solidarity.

Vietnamese authorities, organizations and associations of overseas Vietnamese, also organized many programs such as connecting businesses, intellectuals, summer camps, strengthening Vietnamese language teaching and maintaining Vietnamese culture abroad.

The visits of the overseas Vietnamese to Truong Sa island district have encouraging the spirit of our army and people in protecting the country's sovereignty.

Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai also expressed her gratitude and wished to continue to receive contributions from people to adaptation and recovery from the pandemic and socio-economic development in Vietnam.

This includes funding for the construction of boats for Truong Sa island district, to support people to exercise their sovereignty and protect the sovereignty of the Fatherland.

The overseas Vietnamese in Geneva will continue to strengthen its role as a bridge, foster cooperation with international organizations in Geneva.
