Strongly supporting and appreciating the role of UNESCO, in July 1976 Vietnam officially joined the organization which is considered as the "Intellectual House" of the world.

According to UNESCO Representative in Vietnam Michael Croft, Vietnam has always been an active member and always works with criteria towards a higher goal.

Since joining UNESCO, Vietnam has been and will continue to take on important roles in UNESCO councils. Vietnam is a member country that is very active in the leadership of various committees. Vietnam has also been very supportive in the implementation of new resolutions and conventions in the cultural sector.

During the past 45 years, since joining UNESCO, Vietnam has always received UNESCO's support and help in terms of ideas, awareness and experience, as well as initial financial and technical contributions to a number of projects in Vietnam.

Vietnam has become a typical example of UNESCO's achievements, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position in the international arena.

UNESCO Representative in Vietnam Michael Croft once said: "Vietnam itself represents UNESCO values of solidarity, tolerance, diversity and harmony." These are considered the foundational values that create the Vietnamese identity.

Through the visits to Vietnam by the Director Generals of UNESCO, the two sides signed many long-term strategic cooperation agreements for the development of the bilateral relationship.

Also through its relationship with UNESCO, Vietnam continues to receive important and strategic support for sustainable development. Although it is not a financial organization, UNESCO's ideas and experiences contribute to changing perceptions and thinking in order to use resources most effectively.

Vietnam is also one of the countries that actively contributes and support efforts to protect cultural heritage. Vietnam has realized initiatives and built the image of Hanoi as a "Creative City" of the 21st century with a vision towards the future, reflecting the national aspiration to become a dynamic and creative member.

This is considered one of the orientations that UNESCO will continue to cooperate and accompany with Vietnam in the coming time, promoting traditional values preserved for more than a thousand years, innovating and creating to catch up with the development trend of the times - the era of intellectual civilization and globalization.

In particular, in the context of the complicated development of the Covid-19 pandemic, with an important role in UNESCO, Vietnam has launched many initiatives in discussions on ensuring education quality and digitization in development so that no one is left behind.

Over the past 45 years, the Vietnam-UNESCO cooperation relationship has grown better and stronger over time, making a significant contribution to the construction and development of the country. In the following years, UNESCO will continue to be an important bridge and forum for Vietnam to actively integrate into the world.
