Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc emphasized the similarities in the heroic history of the struggle against colonialism, the ideals, the will and the aspiration to gain independence, freedom and happiness for the two peoples.

In particular, he mentioned the milestone in 1912, on the journey to find a way to save the country, President Ho Chi Minh stopped at the port of Montevideo (Uruguay) while working on the Latouche-Tréville ship.

According to Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc, after nearly two centuries since independence, the government and people of Uruguay have made unremitting efforts to build and develop the country with many outstanding achievements.

Since the end of the 19th century, after completing the apparatus, Uruguay consolidated its democracy and achieved a high level of prosperity and development, comparable to many developed countries in Europe. Uruguay also has many famous regional works such as Estadio Stadium, Uruguay Theater, Salvo Palace.

"Vietnamese people admire Uruguay-a football powerhouse in the region and in the world. With a population of just over three million, Uruguay twice lifted the prestigious World Cup trophy in 1930 and 1950, 15 times South American champion, becoming one of the countries that own the most football championships in this region.

Vietnamese football fans are full of excitement when they see famous players like Diego Forlan, Edinson Cavani or Luis Suarez of Uruguay perform their magic in each match," Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc said.

Speaking at the event, Uruguayan Ambassador Raul Pollak Giampietro said that Vietnam and Uruguay are located at opposite poles in terms of geography, but have taken the first steps to get to know each other.

After 30 years, the two countries strengthened their ties and laid the foundation for a long-term, solid and reliable relationship, on the basis of signed bilateral agreements. Internationally, the two countries share values and principles that bring the two peoples closer together.

Cooperation in international organizations between the two sides is traditional, creating interaction with positive results for both sides.

Vietnam and Uruguay are consistent in observing the principles of the United Nations Charter, especially the settlement of disputes by peaceful means, respect for the law, and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

Both demonstrate a serious commitment to environmental protection with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Uruguay wishes to continue to deepen relations with Vietnam in all fields.

The two countries are continuing to promote cooperation in negotiating the opening of markets of mutual interest, including meat, dairy products and citrus fruits from Uruguay, and fish and tropical fruits from Vietnam.

Uruguay believes in Vietnam's support to strengthen the presence of Uruguay's commercial products in Southeast Asia, as Vietnam has been promoting the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the South American Common Market (Mercosur).

Emphasizing the significance of the visit to Uruguay by Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in April, Ambassador Raul Pollak Giampietro said this is a special opportunity for the two countries to discuss a series of cooperation mechanisms in areas such as agriculture, livestock, energy, environment and climate change response.

The establishment of the Vietnam-Uruguay Friendship Parliamentarians Group during this visit opened another channel of cooperation of great significance, helping to strengthen bilateral relations.

The meetings between representatives of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) and Uruguayan agencies and organizations promoted a new stage in the two countries' people-to-people relations.

"We will step by step pave the way to continue bringing the two countries closer together. In the next 30 years, the relationship between the two countries will develop with more trade cooperation and cultural exchange," Ambassador Raul Pollak Giampietro said.
