This is the first high-level visit after the two countries agreed to upgrade their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in December 2022. Therefore, this event holds many important meanings, opening a new page for Vietnam-RoK relations.

The results of the visit are a driving force for relations between the two countries, creating a premise for new, and deeper developments in the coming years.

Since upgrading relations in December 2022 until now, sectors, localities, businesses and people have expanded exchanges and cooperation. With the visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the parties will have the opportunity to look back, evaluate and recommend next steps in the overall relationship between Vietnam and the RoK.

In addition, the success of this official visit also conveys a message to the regional and international community about the determination of the two countries to increase exchanges, promote cooperation, and improve connectivity between Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia for peace, prosperity and sustainable development of the entire Asia-Pacific region.

What are the focuses on the agenda of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the RoK?

Preparations for the visit are being urgently completed by all parties, many events and activities are being carefully considered. They are in the fields of politics-security, economics-trade, people-to-people exchange, labor cooperation, cultural promotion, tourism cooperation to exchange experiences, and learn from each other.

The above activities all demonstrate priorities in the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the RoK. However, the priorities of this visit will be steps to further strengthen trust between the two countries, opening up new opportunities for businesses on both sides, and further deepens the connection between the two peoples.

In terms of politics and security, in less than two years since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership, there have been six mutual visits between senior leaders of the two countries, seven ministerial-level delegations, and more than 80 delegations from different localities of the two countries.

These activities help strengthen mutual understanding and, most importantly, significantly increase the trust between the two countries.

Economic cooperation, the main pillar of the two countries' relationship, is also a bright spot in Vietnam's international economic cooperation. After 30 years of trade, trade turnover increased from US$500 million in 1992 to US$87 billion in 2022, and is heading towards the US$100 billion mark. Cumulative total direct investment from the RoK into Vietnam still maintains the number one position, reaching over US$87 billion.

Culture and people are two important elements in creating sustainable diplomatic relationships. How do you assess the prospects for cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK in this field?

People are always at the center of all relationships between countries. Likewise, people have a special position in Vietnam-RoK relations in the past, present, and future.

The first Vietnamese people set foot in the RoK 1,000 years ago. They participated in building and protecting their new country, and have become an inseparable part of the RoK community.

Today, the Vietnamese community in the RoK has grown, participating in all areas of local life. The connection between the people of the two countries is becoming increasingly stronger.

Therefore, the Vietnamese Embassy in the RoK always strives to be a lighthouse to convey trust, for Vietnamese people to always look towards. This light at sea was formed 30 years ago, and is now being lit strongly with the development of relations between the two peoples.
