Vietnamese Community in Brazil Celebrates Xuan Que Huong 2025

On January 11, in São Paulo, Brazil, the Vietnamese Embassy solemnly organized the Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) 2025 program to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025) and to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

This year's event saw the attendance of 80 people, including representatives of the Vietnamese community and their families in Brazil.

In the warm atmosphere of the Spring Festival, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi extended his best wishes for a happy, prosperous, and successful New Year to the community and guests. He also sent his New Year greetings to the Vietnamese community in Brazil who could not attend in person, as well as the Vietnamese communities in Peru, Bolivia, Suriname, and Guyana.

Ambassador Bui Van Nghi highlighted that in 2024, the country's key leaders conducted 60 foreign affairs activities, including 21 visits to other countries and attendance at multilateral conferences, and received 25 delegations of foreign leaders to Vietnam. Over 170 cooperation agreements were signed, providing further momentum and strength for the country's continued development and growth. With the signing and near completion of negotiations on 17 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with more than 60 countries and territories, Vietnam is currently negotiating an additional 3 FTAs and new economic frameworks.

The macro economy remains stable, with the highest GDP growth in more than a decade, making Vietnam a standout economy in the region. The impressive growth rate of 7.09% has raised the GDP scale of the economy to 11,512 trillion VND.

Regarding Vietnam-Brazil relations in 2024, Ambassador Bui Van Nghi shared that, in addition to the Prime Minister's working trip to the G20 Summit, the visit by Party Central Committee Secretary, Politburo member, and Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia in August further affirmed the close relationship between the two countries.

Bilateral trade relations continue to shine as a key area of cooperation. Brazil is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America and second in the Americas. Conversely, Vietnam serves as Brazil's leading partner in ASEAN.

Beyond economic ties, cooperation in education, culture, science and technology, and tourism has also seen significant progress. Events such as Vietnam Day in Brazil 2024 and the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Memorial during the Prime Minister's visit to Brazil have not only promoted Vietnam's image but also contributed to deepening the friendship between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese overseas community continues to grow, expanding in both numbers and diversity. With 6 million Vietnamese people living abroad and remittances reaching around 16 billion USD in 2024, these resources play a crucial role in the country's development.

Ambassador Bui Van Nghi emphasized that the Embassy regards the Vietnamese community in Brazil as an inseparable part of the broader Vietnamese people community. They play a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations between Vietnam and the host country. The Embassy is committed to enhancing cooperation with Brazilian authorities and domestic agencies to support the community in different aspects.

Representing the Vietnamese community in Brazil, Tran Van Quang expressed his joy at witnessing the country's development. He noted that, despite the many challenges faced in making a living in a foreign land, the community remains wholeheartedly connected to their homeland, looking forward to an eventual return.

During his working trip to São Paulo City (January 9-12, 2025), Ambassador Bui Van Nghi and the Embassy delegation visited and presented gifts to the family of Professor Phan Van Ngan, a renowned intellectual and oceanography scientist at the University of São Paulo. The Embassy delegation also visited and encouraged Vietnamese traders at the Madrugada wholesale market in São Paulo City.

The Embassy has worked with the Vietnam Trade Office in Brazil on the 2025 work plan. The Embassy is ready to coordinate with the Trade Office to organize exhibitions showcasing Vietnamese products in Brazil. These events aim to enhance the value of Vietnamese brands and promote trade between the two countries. Not only do they create opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to access the Brazilian market, but they also help build the image of Vietnamese products in the eyes of Brazilian consumers, thereby contributing to the strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
