Vietnamese in Finland Support Community at Home and Abroad

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said he appreciated the sentiments of Vietnamese people who are always looking to the Fatherland, and did many volunteer activities to help people in difficulty in the country.

On the afternoon of Sept. 11, during an official visit to the Republic of Finland, in the capital Helsinki, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and a high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly visited officials and employees of the Embassy, and met representatives of the Vietnamese community in the country.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Finland Dang Thi Hai Tam said that during the Covid-19 outbreak over the past two years, the Vietnamese Embassy in Finland had carried out pandemic prevention work, and supported the community, while a good job of protecting citizens. Such works include psychological support for students during the pandemic, organizing relief flights and efforts to implement diplomatic work in political, economic and cultural aspects.

Over the past year, the Embassy has organized community events, connecting people from Vietnam and Finland. The events brought specific results such as: launching the program for domestic high school students to enroll in Finland in August 2021; and working with two companies to receive Vietnamese people to work in Finland for 3 months in the summer.

In addition, there was also program to train nurses for the Finnish market, which needs more nurses in the next five years; as well as the organization of Vietnam Day, with the participation of nearly 700 high school students to promote tourism, prepare for post-pandemic development.

The Embassy has also accompanied and supported Vietnamese associations/groups in Finland in activities, both online and face-to-face, such as cooking classes, investment webinars, as well as job applications and integration in Finland for Vietnamese students, experts and intellectuals.

The Vietnamese community in Finland currently has more than 10,000 people, including nearly 2,500 international students, and is a community of solidarity and mutual affection, which helps each other and the Fatherland. They always try to maintain the good culture and identity of the Vietnamese people in Finland.

Welcoming National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and high-ranking delegation of the National Assembly of Vietnam to Finland, Nga Nguyen Pakarinen, president of the Vietnamese Association in Finland, said that the visit had special significance, laying the foundation for the stronger development of Vietnam-Finland relations going forward

She said: “Vietnam is always in our hearts. The two homelands are getting closer, and close cooperation is also the expectation of Vietnamese people in Finland.

The President of the Vietnamese Association in Finland said he would like to congratulate the very positive results of the Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue and the delegation in European countries this time, especially the results of vaccines, equipment and supplies. Deals in the field of healthcare, contracts on production transfer and vaccine purchase have also been signed.

Sharing the nostalgia of many Vietnamese in Finland, where it has been nearly two years since they were unable to return home, Nga Nguyen Pakarinen proposed the resumption of Vietnam-Finland flights soon. She wants domestic agencies to create conditions so that overseas Vietnamese who have received two doses of the vaccine when returning home can reduce the isolation time.

Bui Thu Ha, president of the Vietnamese Student Association in Finland, said that with about 2,500 Vietnamese students studying in Finland, most of the students were good at theory and practice, and appreciated by Finnish employers.

In the recent complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese Student Association in Finland still maintains student support and career guidance activities. Bui Thu Ha said he wished Vietnam and Finland would strengthen bilateral cooperation in many fields so that Vietnamese students studying in Finland could contribute to the country while studying here.

In a cordial and warm atmosphere, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue expressed feelings to the Vietnamese community in Finland with best wishes for health and affection.

He announced the preliminary results of the working trip, and said the delegation received a respectful and warm welcome from the Finnish leaders.

In addition to investment promotion, an important task is to implement vaccine diplomacy, added.

Expressing his joy to see the Vietnamese community in Finland unite and support each other during high-level meetings, the Finnish leader praised the Vietnamese community.

The Chairman of the National Assembly said he recognized and appreciated the sentiments of the people who were always towards and supporting of the Fatherland, and conducted many volunteer activities to help people in the country.

They support the poor, and raise money to donate to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, he added.
