Vietnamese, Malaysia Foreign Ministers Hold Talks In Hanoi

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with his Malaysian counterpart Saifuddin Abdullah on March 20 morning to discuss preparations for the official visit to Vietnam by Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob which takes place on March 20-21.

During the talks, as vietnamplus reported, the two sides exchanged views on measures to strengthen the two ministries’ coordination so as to promote the Vietnam-Malaysia relations, and on some regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The two Foreign Ministers underscored the significance of their first in-person meeting after months of combating the Covid-19 pandemic, and highly appreciated the two sides’ preparations for PM Sabri Yaakob’s visit, contributing to further promoting the strategic partnership between the two countries, as VOV News reported.

They agreed to work closely and coordinate with relevant agencies of each country to maintain the effective implementation of the minutes of the 6th session of the two countries’ Joint Committee on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation in November 2021 as well as the 2021-2025 Action Programme to implement the Vietnam - Malaysia strategic partnership.

The two ministers also reached a consensus on major orientations to well prepare activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023, Nhan Dan reported.

On regional and international issues of mutual concern, they affirmed to maintain close coordination at international and regional organizations and forums such as the United Nations, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and ASEAN, and work together to strengthen ASEAN' solidarity and s central role in handling strategic issues in the region.

Previously, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob and a high-ranking delegation of Malaysia arrived at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi on March 20, starting a two-day official visit to Vietnam. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a welcome ceremony in Hanoi on March 21 for his Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob, who is on a two-day official visit to Vietnam.

According to Tien Phong News, this is the first tour of Vietnam by Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob since he took office in August 2021. The Malaysian PM is also scheduled to meet with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue.

Within the framework of his official visit to Vietnam, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob held a meeting in Hanoi on March 20 with representatives from three Vietnamese groups, namely Sovico, Hoa Binh Construction and Gami.

Vietnamese entrepreneurs informed the Malaysian Prime Minister and senior officials of their operations and cooperation with Malaysian partners, as Vietnamnet reported.

Expressing his pleasure to meet Vietnamese entrepreneurs and hear good signals from cooperation between the two countries’ businesses, the Malaysian Prime Minister suggested them to continue cooperation in many fields, including transportation, tourism, labor, which are being seriously affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are expected to boom again in the coming time.

The Vietnam-Malaysia traditional friendship and strategic partnership have been thriving towards the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties (1973-2023).

The visit by Malaysian PM Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob aims to further the bilateral relations and cooperation in the post-pandemic period. It also offers a chance for both sides to explore new aspects of bilateral ties, discuss regional and international issues of common concern, and promote bilateral trade and investment.
