In the past few years, when it comes to Vietnamese paintings, especially Indochina paintings, people have started to mention the million dollar figure.

Holding the previous record, is the nude painting by painter Le Pho in the 20th Century & Contemporary Art auction of Christie's in May 2019 which sold for US$1.4 million.

The records of Indochina paintings at international auctions are constantly changing. It is a testament to the vitality and value of this line of paintings, as well as the mark of Vietnamese painting on the world art market.

Recently, the painting "Girl combing her hair" by artist Tran Tan Loc has just been sold by Auttes Auctions (France). It was sold in an auction revolving around works by Asian artists, marking another milestone in Vietnamese art.

The auction was just held by Aguttes on the afternoon of March 14. The painting "Girl combing her hair" by painter Tran Tan Loc (1906-1968) made in 1932 was put up for auction, reaching the price of 338,000 euros (US$373). Previously, the painting was estimated by the auction house to cost about US$130,000 - 150,000.

The auction has a total of 46 works for sale, including many works by Vietnamese painters such as Mai Trung Thu, Le Pho, Le Thi Luu, and Vu Cao Dam. However, none of the works created a price shock.

Previously, at the auction of Southeast Asian contemporary and modern art in Hong Kong, China, two Vietnamese paintings were successfully auctioned.

Specifically, two paintings that were successfully auctioned were "Lady Playing A Nguyet Cam", silk material from 1943 by author Mai Trung Thu for more than US$1 million.

The screen "Golden Sunset Over Ha Long Bay" lacquer material from 1938-1945 by Pham Hau was auctioned for more than US$1.2 million.

Both paintings were auctioned at a high price compared to the estimated price, because of the perfection of art and preservation, as well as its prestigious background. The price achieved by these two paintings can be considered as another good news for Vietnamese art.
