Vietnam's higher education ranks up on international education map

Despite a much younger development history than regional and international higher education, Vietnam's higher education institutions have been continuously recognized in the leading university rankings over the past time. In the ranking list of 10,000 universities in Asia made by Quacquarelli Symonds Education Organization (QS), there were 7 universities from Vietnam in 2018, 8 in 2020, and 11 in 2021.
The top 500 universities in Asia in 2018 include Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Can Tho University, Hue University, and The University of Da Nang. In 2019, Ton Duc Thang University was added to this ranking. In 2020, Duy Tan University got in. In 2021, QS ranked 634 the best higher education institutions in Asia, and Vietnam had even more universities than previously. Some of the new names got in the list include Hanoi Pedagogical University, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, and University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.

The QS 2020 rankings by fields have four Vietnamese universities in the global top 600, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, and the Can Tho University. In particular, the National University of Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho University were named in this ranking for the first time.
Specifically, the computer science and information systems major of Ho Chi Minh City National University are ranked in the group 551-600 globally. Can Tho University's agriculture and forestry majors get into the top 251-300, while Hanoi National University has 3 ranked majors, including math, physics, and astronomy, computer science, and information systems.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology has 4 groups of majors in the top 400 and 500, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aviation, and manufacturing; computer science and information systems, mathematics. Among them, all 3 majors in the fields of engineering and information technology increased from 50 to 100 places compared to the 2019 ranking and continue to hold the number one position in Vietnam.

This is also the first time that two mathematics majors in Vietnam have entered the top 500 of the world. Also in 2020, the QS ranking put Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University in the group of 1,000 best universities in the world. According to the Webometrics rankings (the version of 2020) of the Cybermetrics Labs (CSIC- Spanish National Research Council) published in January 2020, Vietnam has 172 higher education institutions in the rankings.
In the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings, in 2019, Vietnam had three ranked universities for the first time. In which, Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Hanoi National University were named in the list of 1,000 leading universities in the world. Ho Chi Minh National University ranked 1,000+. In 2020, Hanoi National University continues to be in the top 1,000 best universities in the world according to this ranking. Hanoi Polytechnic University and Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic University ranked 1,000+.
In the University Rankings by Academic Achievement (URAP), in 2020, Vietnam has 12 ranked universities, an increase of 4 compared to last year.
