The Vietnamese delegation participated in the dialogue session on Vietnam's National Report under the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

On May 7, at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet participated in a dialogue session on Vietnam's National Report under the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Speaking at the opening ceremony and presenting Vietnam's National Report, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet expressed the pride of the Vietnamese delegation in dialogue with other countries on the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory at the United Nations headquarters.

This is the place that witnessed the negotiation and signing of the Geneva Accords in 1954, important historical events in the work of national liberation, the struggle against colonialism of the Vietnamese people, and many peoples around the world..

The Vietnamese delegation expressed gratitude to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives to bring the country to where it is today.

The Deputy Minister affirmed Vietnam's consistent policy on protecting and promoting human rights. With the policy of considering people as the center, the goal and driving force of innovation and national development, Vietnam has risen from a poor country to one of the countries with the fastest growing economies in the world.

Since the 3rd UPR in 2019, Vietnam has continued to improve its legal system, human rights policies, and achieved many practical achievements.

The rights to health care, education, social security, freedom of religion and belief, freedom of the press, internet, and gender equality have made clear progress.

Vietnam's human development index (HDI) and gender equality index (GEI) ranked by United Nations agencies are continuously improving.

The Government had many policies and measures to protect people's health and socio-economic development after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vietnam actively promotes the transition to a green and digital economy and implements its commitments under international treaties on human rights.

The UPR review session on Vietnam received high attention from countries with more than 130 countries participating in the dialogue.

Countries recognized Vietnam's policies, efforts, and achievements in ensuring human rights, and the fact that Vietnam always seriously implements approved UPR recommendations.

Many countries welcome Vietnam's achievements in economic development, ensuring social justice, promoting education to raise awareness of human rights, and promoting women's rights, and the rights of ethnic groups.

The Vietnamese delegation affirmed Vietnam's priorities in promoting and protecting human rights in the coming time, including building a socialist rule of law state, administrative reform, promoting dialogue, cooperation on human rights, and strengthening human rights education.

Additionally, the Vietnamese delegation answered many questions and provided more information on issues of concern to other countries.

These include efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, building a green, inclusive economy, the development of the internet and social networks, freedom of expression, people's right to access information, and ensuring freedom of belief and religion.

They emphasized the principles of dialogue, cooperation, and respect for differences.

They also said that there is no common model for all countries, each country will have its own development path depending on its characteristics and conditions.

At the dialogue session, Vietnam received about 300 recommendations with diverse content, covering all areas of human rights. After the dialogue session, on May 10, the Human Rights Council's UPR Working Group will meet to consider and approve the report on the results of the UPR review for Vietnam.
